mountain of salt...

look how convenient the 480 OC score uses same numbers that you can find elsewhere on the graph and even more obvious, how the coma is too far from number "4" on 480 OC score compared to other results.
very poor photoshop job :thumbsdown:

Plus, if you OC the 980Ti, it would be up a few levels...

As would other cards on the list.

If you look closely, the comma in the 480 OC line appears to be different to the other commas.

First some say they are very happy about AMD strategy but in practice they are desperate to see AMD releasing a much faster part. We already have 2 or 3 pseudo-conspiracy theories going, on why AMD has been hiding a faster card, ready to be unveiled at the last minute. Just a bit sad..

Every AMD release is now filled with psuedo conspiracies of faster parts and/or PR benchmarks that never live up to 3rd party reviews. It's pathetic and sad that these conspiracy theorists can't just call it as it is.

The truth is, price is going to be fantastic for 390x/GTX 980 performance at $199 (if it actually hits MSRP) but the performance jump over pitcairn is going to be disappointing. It's only going to be ~2x faster than pitcairn - a first gen 28nm chip - and the performance gulf between AMD's ~215mm2 chip and Nvidia's ~300mm2 is significantly larger than what it was when GK104 was released.

I hope AMD's low price strategy works really, really well before Nvidia catches on because if/when Nvidia responds with price cuts and "we all win as consumers," AMD loses (again) unless Nvidia has soured enough consumers with their high price scheme that AMD becomes the preferred choice.

Some of us are happy about the AMD strategy but also want AMD to hurry along with the faster parts. A $200 GPU performing the way the 480 is rumored to perform is good for every single one of us. I personally have no use for it (in my main pc anyway), but it drives performance up and pricing down, the exact opposite of what nVidia has been doing. I find it exciting because if it indeed performs like rumored at the $200 price point, what does AMD have in store for us later at the $400-650 pricing points.

It being a good strategy doesn't mean I wouldn't want the card to be that impressive. It doesn't have to be nearly that impressive to be a really solid card for the price point that you can get without worrying about being burned by a big price drop.

It's a real shame that you seem to only be interested in low content shilling, you've clearly got the knowledge to make some really good posts if you were so inclined.

Can't you tell the difference between wanting AMD to release a faster card and some believing any sort of crazy theory? I tried to rationally argue with some of those "believers" but I was told I was the crazy one. So damned if I do and damned if I don't, I can't really win.

Well nvidia is trying to rape us. AMD isn't a meaningful upgrade for a lot of people on here. Of course we are a little disappointed. I've been waiting for 14/16nm for a very long time. If nothing else its going to stop nvidia from rolling out a $300 1060 and expecting us to be grateful.

If you want good perf, Vega's coming out soon, no? There's your Fury successor.

Seems that the whole RX hype is about to crash hard... and is good since it will retain the minimun value for the true buyers: cryptominers and Asian and LATAM consumers.

Please, it needs to be bad, it needs to be bad (to maintain the price as low as possible)

Only way I see it crashing hard is if for some reason they are $350 at launch. But knowing how AMD usually sticks to their MSRP, I don't think there is a chance of that happening.

Really? Damn.... and there will be people buying even the 470 T-T.

Nevermind... there is always the 460 for that (and is surprising that the nVIDIA fans didn't bashed them to the hell)

I've seen benchmarks which show 470 nipping at the heals of gtx970. For $149 you get a card with full 4Gb .. 470 will sell in even greater numbers I recon. Especially world wide where people get screwed on VAT and other import taxes.

Exactly. Americans quickly forget that over the pond we have different prices. 370$ 1070? Yeah, dream on. More like over 500€. That's not mainstream, it's freaking robbery. So if a 470 gets to 170€ it's gonna sell like hot bread.

Isn't that supposed to b another Fury (Gen 2)

270 -> rx 470
380 -> rx 480
390 -> rx 490
FuryHBM 1-> Fury HBM2

Isn't this how the next gen is planned !?
Small Vega is Hawaii replacement, big Vega would be the successor to Fiji however both of them will likely have HBM2.

:thumbsup:

"pseudo-conspiracy theori[sts]" being those people who heard AMD CEO say Polaris will range from $100-$300, and then who suspect the sole announced card with a price point of $199 would not be the fastest...

You guys must be geniuses to come to a different conclusion :thumbsup:

No, you don't need to be a genius

Card with 4GB of ram @199.
reference card with 8GB @ (iirc) 229.
Standard AIB card with 8GB @250-75.
Really fancy, AIB card with a bigger factory overclock @~300.

Entirely in line with nearly every GPU of recent times. The final column may not exist, with the 300 being covered by 'routinely' expensive AIB cards. Depends on how much OC headroom there is - if there is some, even at the expense of a mad power draw, then they'll ramp it up as there'll be some sales for the fastest vaguely modern AMD card.

Does that mean, instead of rx 490, we'd have small vega and then a full Vega as the top card ?

If rx480 is performing similar to R9 390 (40% higher than a 380), should't a rx490 perform similar to Fury. Then, Vega lauches at a completely unprecedented performance level.

It appears a 36 CU P10 is a cut down chip. So they'd release the full chip as rx490 for $300.. 8GB version only.. Completing their product stack for $100-$300 cards.

From AMD's perspective:

rx 460 > 270/x
rx 470 > 380/x
rx 480 > 390/x
rx 490 > Nano/Fury
Vega 1 > Fury X
Vega 2 > New Benchmark

From Nvidia's perspective:

rx 460 > 960
rx 470 > 970
rx 480 > 980
rx 490 > 980ti/1070
Vega 1 > 1080
Vega 2 > 1080 Ti
