Intel considering licensing Radeon tech because Nvidia is asking a lot more to renew their deal with Intel has been an ongoing rumor for a while now. The dodge by Kyle on clarifying his Polaris is hotter than expected comment seems odd. It's not as if he has any NDA obligations to AMD since they've blacklisted his site.

People thinking his article is just pure hate are clearly not thinking logically.

If it turns out later Polaris is amazing product he will lose a lot of credibility and it will also make it impossible to get any AMD product samples in the future.

So from logical point of view he can only lose if it turns out to be false with nothing to gain.

He's already lost AMD by posting this. Its viewers he has to worry about, but the article doesn't actually say anything solid about the GPU.

Even if polaris is what polaris is supposed to be, all he has done is try to spin that product as bad. Its going to have a temperature he can call high with reference cooler. Its going to have a lower price he can call a result of poor performance if it doesn't match fury x 1080 1070 etc. So I really dont think there's anything there but bad blood.

The only really significant thing he has said is about RTG and intel. That part is worrying, and Koduri would be a bottom for it. AMD has a good thing going with consoles and zen + radeon could do really well. Not to mention all they've already invested in APUs. It would also be cowardly and greedy. He didnt seem the type but who knows. Maybe he needs more money to buy a Boeing personal plane or something.

Come on Kyle, you have no problem being in a position to be slinging the mud around about AMD's inner business working (from inside sources apparently) but won't share info about performance and the like? :\

It's almost certainly BS. He's apparently in a position to say that Polaris runs hotter than GP104, but not in a position to clarify whether he meant temperature or power usage. How the hell does that even work?

He isn't well respected. Hasn't been for a number of years. He has a now several year history of writing completely unsubstantiated or over sensationalized claims. In some cases claims that his own data debunks in the very same article. He will call out AMD for something on a whim, but when Nvidia does the exact same thing there are no sensationalist articles to be found. Any time he is called out on his forums he either dodges or outright deletes the questioning post.

Also, his behavior is precisely over a couple of hundred bucks for a video card. Ever since AMD cut him off he has been in tantrum mode.

I still crack up everytime I remember that article he published about Nano last year. Anybody else remember the forum posts? I remember him saying that he was talking to AMD PR and they told him the price of the Nano and he just hang up the phone.

To be clear, Kyle went on to say that his hanging up the phone had nothing to do with the price, he hung up because he was simply done listening and Brent was the one who would be listening to the rest of the conference.

Do I buy that explanation? Not for a second but I just wanted to give the whole story according to Kyle.

He does refer to it as an "editorial" and as long as he is comparing Polaris 10 performance to 1070/80 performance, then he's not going to be "wrong". He certainly doesn't take any of the more positive P10 rumors into account. And the real issue is Vega lagging 1070/80, not P10 failing to compete directly with 1070/80.

With regards to the AMD / ATG / Intel "rumors", then yeah... AMD needs cash and I expect they care more about buying time to get their core/future business on-track than holding on to ATG. Intel has to be imagining what ATG could be with Intel's R&D and manufacturing capabilities as they try to better compete in the SoC space with ARM, Ti, Samsung, etc. with the traditional CPU business diminishing.

No offense, but I think you may be making a claim here that could be difficult to substantiate. I'm happy to be wrong, if you could link to some awards, peer reviews, industry accolades, etc.

So far Polaris hasn't turned out to be anything, since this is all just rumours and so far we have no solid info on Polaris (be it good or bad).

It's not that I actual doubt all that Kyle is saying is inaccurate. AMD is perpetually a day late and dollar short on everything they do be it GPUs or processors. If it wasn't for their contracts with Microsoft and Sony for gaming consoles, would they even have enough profitability to be in business any longer??

But it seems Kyle is just "sore" about AMD. He truly gets his feelings hurt that they want nothing to do with them. It just doesn't sit well for a grown ass man to act that way.

Do they seriously expect a small mainstream chip to run faster than GP104? That's setting a bar too high that AMD would have to pull a miracle to reach.

No they don't. They did however expect it to be a competitive low power device which was actually low power and thus low heat. Running HOTTER than the 1080/1070 is not what a low power device is suppose to do, and that is what they are currently reporting from their sources. The whole point of a targeted low power device is that you can put it in computer cases and laptops which have constraints on overall power and thermal loads. From the sounds of it though, the whole "Polaris is not targeted at high performance" is all spin, and polish attempting to make lemonade from the lemon that it turned out to be.

We will know more in a few days, but if it uses close to the amount of power and runs hotter than the 1070/1080 and isn't even as fast as a R290X, they really do have a problem. A real low power device would at least have been usable in laptops and budget desktops, but not something that draws 200+ Watts...

I haven't ventured off [H] forum's "for sale/trade" subforum in months. Its great for that - lots of activity. I like the Hoverhound addon as well. Other than that - don't read their news or reviews. Just not the same caliber as AT or TPU. While there may be a grain of truth here or there that "article" just seems to be a bitter rant by someone not invited to the party. We'll see.

AMD said Polaris will be released for B2S season, so I don't see they are late. If they release it by the end of June or begining of July, it will be even before the time they promised. And we will have more official information in a few days

he was so correct as videocardz posting articles with facts

he just got rumors from 2015 and 2016 sticked them together put some sauce of being hotter (when i asked him how amd managed to screw the laws of physics and logic he just didnt answer) or when i posted the video of p11 running from the demo they did with only 50 watts or or or..
the guy is a con and with moves like this he just reinforce that statement hopefully its a month till the nda expires and we will all go there and laugh at his face just like we always do
