Guys, Have you seen lately Polaris GPU prices?

I am baffled, because lately there were stunning deals, even with rebates.
https://slickdeals.net/f/9753124-de...ard-hitman-pcdd-130-after-30-rebate-at-newegg
130$ for 4 GB RX 470(!).
https://slickdeals.net/f/9742828-po...gddr5-video-card-140-after-20-rebate-free-s-h
140$ for 4 GB RX 480(!!!)
Even RX 460 2 GB was going for 70$
https://slickdeals.net/f/9743268-powercolor-red-dragon-radeon-rx-460-video-card-70ar-newegg

And that is not the end, some of RX 480's are right now under 190$ mark. Cheapest one is... 179$ on newegg without rebate.

Are they selling the stock?

Hawaii went on super discount after GM204 launched, and it didn’t go anywhere any time soon (even the rebrand didn't come until a year later). It’s just how AMD operates.

Over here in the UK, the 470 is at the same price as the 480. And they've not really gone down in price as time has worn on.

I want to upgrade from this 7850, dangnammit, and all the 8GB cards (even 2nd hand 290s) are at least £200.

These are some pretty good prices. I already have a ton of AMD cards though. How does the 470 compare to the 290?

One way to gain market share is to cut prices.

If I were doing a budget build today, these would be pretty tempting.

In my country biggest retailer currently also has very good deals for the RX 470 and 480, both 4 GB models.

470 costs 149$, and RX 480 159$.

I just upgraded from a 2Gb gtx770 to a 4Gb rx480 because there are also discounts in my country (not as good though.. rx480 cost me 190eur) and because if I wanted to sell my 770 for anything worthwhile it was now or never.

Total cost of the upgrade 100eur which I think is fair for around double the performance.

Vega is rumoured for early summer so still ways off, and supposedly at higher end market so not so sure if they are clearing stock..

About neck and neck, though I think the 290 will have much more staying power due to that sexy 512bit bus.

I dunno they've had great pricing like this for months now. Been able to get 470 for under $150 since november or earlier if you check out slickdeals

There has to be some chance that AMD will rebrand the 470/80 etc to go along with Vega - utterly consistent with their previous behaviour - so there could be some element(s) of stock clearance involved.

Especially since they did mess up some easily fixable aspects of the 480 launch quite badly.

I mean the real question is what do they have to lose? Not only that it allows their aibs to update designs too. Put newer more enticing Polaris models out with newer and more enticing names. It'd be in amds best interest to get their aibs in board.

I wonder if Polaris Refresh (e.g. Polaris 11 and Polaris 10 on refined 14nm rebranded to 5xx series) will drop simultaneously with Vega - that would make sense why they're clearing out 4xx branded stuff now

edit: just noticed this has already been pointed out. I agree. I think there's something going on here

I'll double down, they would be a poorly run company to NOT rebrand the Polaris GPUs with the Vega launch to fill out the lineup.

The only scenario where AMD would not re-brand Polaris is if small Vega (11?) is cheaper to make. Hell, fat 4096 SP Vega would be cut 75% and sold instead of the RX 460 if by some unknown law it was cheaper to manufacture than Polaris 11.

We don't know the specs for Vega 11, but does anyone think it will cost less than the year old Polaris 10?

And they'll give the re-brand it a new name (probably 600 series since 500 is OEM). Pitcairn was carried up to the 200 and 300 series. The question is when. Tahiti was rebranded as 280X the same month as 290X launched. Hawaii wasn't rebranded to 390X until 2 months after Fury X, so sometimes they wait a little bit. Though they really should have rebranded that one as a response to GM204 launch nearly a year earlier... what a missed opportunity to partially reboot the mindshare.

They might skip rebranding Polaris. Some are convinced that Raven Ridge will have up to 16 CU (I don't believe it, but I could be wrong) which makes Polaris 11 pointless.

At that point they just need a smaller Vega that sits around 200 mm^2 and they could have Vega across the lineup and kill off the $100 GPU market outside of OEM parts.

Raven Ridge does not have 16CU.

Raven Ridge does not have 16CU.

That's my opinion as well, and I'm not sure why so many people think it will. Unless they give it HBM2 it would be horribly memory starved. It would also add to the die size and I expect that for their APUs AMD would rather go with a small die for better yields and positioning within the market.
