oh i don't want a new subsection, i just want to limit the number of threads (not in a hard limit way) where people just start going off into the weeds by providing a specific outlet for discussing dandelions, so to speak.

I get what you're saying now.

According to some users, the RX 570 is actually not the first rebrand of the RX 470. It's actually the 3rd rebrand!

RX 470 was originally available in 6.6Gbps (aka 1650MHz, aka ~211 GB/s). Go check out reviews from NDA expiring. August 4th last year. 6.6 is what was available.

Then AMD rebranded it to 7Gbps! And they also rebranded it to 8Gbps!

6.6: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABVR56P3628
7.0: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150777
8.0: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202226&Tpk=N82E16814202226

That'll be 4 versions (3 rebrands) in less than a year once the 570 launches soon. 7850 rebrand record beaten already, and in less then a year!!

Or, you know, they later allow AIBs to use higher memory speeds that still exist alongside the newer ones (8Gbps 1060 will still be sold) and there's no rebranding (besides 500 name) at all. Hopefully AMD rebrands offers 9Gbps for some 500 series too.

Jesus, those are not rebrand, you got to be ______ me, so every custom card that is overclocked is a rebrand? You______ me, Rx 470 base was a base model, some custom cards used faster memory and gpu overclock. That a rebrand now? But Polaris never comfortably clocked above 1350 or so earlier revisions. All the systems I have built have max total stable around 1330-1350 average. If rx 570 and rx580s have that ceiling lifted and comfortably hitting 1450 to 1500 with OC then you actually have legit refreshes, given how pathetic the original launch was and its crappy clock speeds. If not they are still stuck at 1350-1400 yea its pretty much a new name and nothing else. But I doubt it.

No profanity in the tech forums.

Poster on reddit has a Rx 570!

Clock speeds of the Polaris 10 version for comparison:
RX 470 4 GB STRIX OC: Default Game mode 1250/1650, and OC mode 1270/1650.

RX 570 Price: $399 aud
RX 470 Price: $239 aud

clearly this guy got ripped off and couldn't wait for actual release date. If his store let him buy it clearly they over priced it and sold it before street date. This won't be the case because prices from other actual legit websites say otherwise as what to expect when they actually hit the street.

What other prices? The other prices I saw were just as bad. I seriously doubt these gpus will debut with a cheap pricetag.

50mhz core clock bump :/

This is easily within range of where people were overclocking 470's so I find it very unimpressive

I get it though, AMD wants a full "new" product stack for when Vega launches, but I wish these cards were more than a simple clockspeed bump. It definitely felt more justified renaming the 290/x to 390/x because the reference cooler was so poor that a clockspeed bump and good (non-throttling) aftermarket coolers made hawaii look like a whole different GPU. Not to mention they bumped the standard memory up from 4GB to 8GB. I don't think a 50mhz clockspeed bump is going to feel as impressive on the 470 but I guess we'll see.

Even if those scores and clocks are legit, the 1070 is still a half tier to a tier above in performance.

It just means that if the RX 580 is really clocked above 1400MHz out of box and is capable of 1500MHz+ OCs, it will be nipping at the heels of the Fury/X in most games at 1440p/4K, and potentially surpassing it at 1080p. Now if it actually ends up being a little bit cheaper than the RX 480 (Lithuanian price leak example is ~5% cheaper) then it would be a solid offering.

I'll remember people were expecting RX580 to match Fury/Fury X. Talk about absurd expectations.
Any idea of how the RX 550 will perform and cost?

$35 like the GT710?
$60 like the GT730?
Performance similar to GTX 750 non ti,
cost $80/£70/€80
Right now you can get a 2GB aftermarket RX 460 for $60 AR.
In other countries is still nowhere near that cheap. Cheapest in my country is $140 for 2gb model. So we need a fresh new card around $100(my currency) which is where hopefully the RX550 will slot in.
Even in the uk for example the cheapest is still £90. There is a market for something decent around £60.

Wow, RX 560 will have 16 CUs and ~1300 MHz boost clocks. If the price is around 120-130€ it will be great offer

Haha so just a slight overclock while someone was expecting it to match the Fury.
Atleast the RX560 is a full chip so expecting around 20% performance boost over rx460.
Lastly rx550 is a 512 sp chip means around 60% of performance of rx560 so somewhere between R7 250X and 750 Non ti.

5-6% higher clocks. this is a really awful rebrand. I hope AMD along with GF has atleast done some work to get lower power consumption than Rx 400 series. Its quite embarassing that AMD have to resort to rebrand to sell Polaris. The Polaris architecture is no match for Pascal in power efficiency.

Hopefully there is no price premium over the rx460. Rx460 was a flop, this needs to be atleast 20% faster while not being more expensive. $99 for 2gb, $110 for 4gb. If its more expensive then 1050Ti is much faster.

I really dont know what the hell they are doing for last entire year. They have so much time to do something but they just add 5% oc and call it rx580.
I really miss ATI.

Someone explain to me the difference between rebrand and refresh. Is the rx570 and 580 a rebrand or refresh?

We are seeing how much better TSMC 16FF+ is compared to GF 14LPP. Xbox Scorpio has 2560 sp / 40 CU at 1172 Mhz while PS4 Pro had 2304 sp / 36 CU at 911 Mhz. Whats even better Scorpio has 384 bit GDDR5 memory bus while PS4 Pro has 256 bit GDDR5 memory bus. These console SoCs are generally designed for 90-100w TDP . So you can see how vastly superior TSMC 16FF+ is and how much thats helping AMD / Microsoft with Scorpio. The truth is AMD is limited by GF 14LPP in terms of clocks, atleast for Polaris. Must be really frustrating for AMD to be hurt by the process limitations.

You and I were actually in agreement.

"Even if those scores and clocks are legit,"
i.e. expressing doubt that the source is legitimate.

In fact, if you read my past several posts, I continuously doubted the veracity of the "leaks", and it looks like my skepticism was warranted.

But pascal can do 1900-2000mhz with 14nm..

And IIRC, PS4 Pro SoC is also produced in TSMCs foundry. So it's the design, not (just) the process

We need proof. Either statement from Sony or die photo indicating that it has been manufactured by TSMC. Xbox One S was confirmed to be manufactured at TSMC 16nm.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-inside-xbox-one-s-tech-interview

Digital Foundry: If you are at 16nmFinFET for the new SoC, does that confirm you're using TSMC [Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company - currently producing Nvidia's new Pascal chips] to fabricate the processor as per Xbox One?

Albert Penello: Yes, for the Xbox One S consoles shipping this year the SoC is fabricated at TSMC.

No change in memory clock

RX 570 vs 470:
Same cores, TMUs, ROPs, memory configuration/bus.
Base clock 1168 vs 926 (+26.13%)
Boost clock 1244 vs 1206 (+3.15%)
Memory clock 7000 vs 6600 (+6.06%)
