And you can find dozens of stories every month in newspapers across the country where people have defended themselves with their handguns. Even 100lb 80 year old women. If you don't live in a shall issue state, you should work to change that, leave the state, or simply come to terms with your helplessness. The police cannot protect you!

I live in NH and can carry with no permit.

I don't argue against CC -- if you'd look around on the threads we've had in the past, you'd realize this immediately.

Absolutely not. They should use their democratic powers to change the law to the way they want it. In the areas you've mentioned, I feel that the law probably reflects the will of the people, and so they've decided to surrender their right to self defense by either failing to change the law or remaining in a place that forbids them from defending themselves.

Any one of those scenarios represents a HUGE failure to observe your surroundings and avoid the situation.

In the event that you ARE at gunpoint, police officers, tacticians and experienced combatants the world over will tell you your best chance is still to draw your own weapon and shoot. It's a much better situation than being at the mercy of someone else. You take them by suprise because they don't expect you to disobey them. And if you're talking about "street thugs" then they're not very likely to be able to hit you, and may not even be willing to shoot you. Regardless, experience has shown it's better to take action than be a hostage.
