Yesterday was an awful day here in the Southern Tier of NY. A Village of Johnson City Police officer was shot and killed yesterday morning right by a hospital by an employee of an MRI imaging facility. Here is the full story as everyone currently understands it:

J.C. Officer Fatally Shot

Suspect's Neighbors: We are in total shock

My wife works for the local court in the same building this officer was stationed (just a few blocks from the scene). This entire tragedy just makes no sense. The guy seemingly just went from "normal" (a nice family man and model employee with a good job) to a cold-bloded murderer. How does this happen? I still can't believe it - this is a bizzare case.

I feel so awful for the two wives and children that just lost husbands and fathers:

The "wife cheating on him with the policie officer" is not supported at all by the linked article. Don't you have any civility at all? It's disgusting to totally make up slanderous comments without the scintilla of any evidence, especially when a deceased police officer is involved.

Think before you speak. That's something you should have learned as a child.

WTF? It was a plausible "why", not an accusation FFS! Pull those panties out of your ass

a lot of cops provoke people cuz cops have nothing better to do with their time and you get situations in which non criminals like mumia abu jamal have to defend themselves. of course the media is complicit in covering up what actually happened and always reports things as if the cop was innocent. lets give the guy who shot the cop in this case the benefit of the doubt here\

there are tons of cases where cops are shooting unarmed people to death. i just posted one yesterday where a cops killed a dude for screwing a chick. here in the bay area some cop shot a 13 year old kid to death. the op should be more concerned about things like this than shootings of cops

the question was asked "what would cause someone to do that"

i provided an answer to something that could.

i never said it DID happen, nor was i speculating

pretty simple

also the fact that he was a police officer is irrellevent

You should think before you speak.

I don't think he was suggesting it as very realistic, any more so than the psychotic break or drugs idea is. Obviously something completely off the radar happened that no one else knew about or is admitting yet.

Apparently on this board it is acceptable behavior to make up and say any BS you feel like without any responsibility-or any factual basis-for what you say at all. My mistake for calling it out for what it is.

I wonder if any of you children would have the nads to make such a statement in person to a friend of the deceased police officer or his widow. I greatly doubt it.

I'd blame the OP for asking this forum "How does this happen?"

Here at AT, we answer questions, no matter how difficult, because it's just what we do.

It's also possible, that the police officer was raping his dog. I don't have any confirmation of this, but just floating the possibility.

Can we please try to stay somewhat rational here? My wife said it has (understandably) been a tough day at work for her today at the J.C. town court building. While she didn't really know officer Smith very well personally, she often saw him manning the desk when you first walk in the building.

I am still trying to grasp what would drive someone that seemed as "normal" as any one of us can be their entire life to suddenly do something so heinous "out of the blue".

The guy made bogus claims/threats at his place of employment, possibly even placed one of the two 911 calls himself (not confirmed as of yet) then runs out of the building (unarmed) waving his arms (like he is flagging the officer down) and instantly and suddenly ambushes the officer as soon as he stops the car and opens the door. that is just crazy.

I mean if you planned on taking an officer down, you would think you would take a weapon with you. Relying on an unarmed physical ambush and taking the officers weapon is not a good odds plan unless your intention was to get yourself killed.

The bold may be because he wanted to kill the cop, but still preserve the 2nd Amendment. If he had killed the cop with his own gun, regardless of how it was purchased. This would be plastered over the national news right now.

So congratulations gun nutters, you got to see a cop die and not have the gun blamed.

A few years ago here, a deputy was working a traffic accident. Some guy walked up behind him and took the officer's gun out of his holster, shot and killed the cop, then killed himself.

Cop was just standing there writing an accident report. Had a wife and two little kids.

Some people just go crazy I guess

You're trying to apply reason to irrational behavior. I highly doubt the perpetrator had a plan. I'm pretty sure he essentially lost touch with reality.
