Do you tip on carry-out (only) orders from regular dine-in places? If so, how much?

I usually don't but I'm not sure if it's wrong. What's the opinions here... I'll even do a poll.

<From post below>
I guess my concern (if that) is that some restaurants use the Bar to place the orders and I wondered if the computer knows it's carry-out or if the person assigned gets hit on taxes based on an assumed tip--like the regular staff do? I mean, it's not my problem, but, still I wonder if they're getting screwed... and that sucks if they are.

Nope. The reason you tip is the for the service the waiter/waitress provided you. For carry out, they do nothing.

i do... usually i order for a buch of us a work, from a local TGIF or something... $200+ order... so i tip the guy like $25.... he gives us alot of extras in there... so i gotta keep him happy.

it doesnt come out of my pocket... i factor the tip into the amount each person owes...

and since it's not delivery tip... it's bartender tip.

Well, that is the only way to get your food. I don't do forced tipping.

If there is a tip jar at the counter I'll usually dump the coins from the change in there.

rarely.

If they give me chips or something to make my wait time more enjoyable while I wait at the bar, possibly.

Depends on the restaurant.

Pizza Hut - no
Chinese Food - no
Fast Food - no

Chili's - yes
Olive Garden - yes
Applebee's - yes

because someone (usually waitress or waiter) has to actually pack up the order, get utensils, make sure it's all there. If you forgot waiters don't get paid much. So while they were packing your to go order they couldn't pay attention to their other customers in the restaurant. Just because you don't see what they do doesn't mean they are not providing you with a service.

I don't tip them as much as if I was eating there but 10% is about what I'll give.

I've had the same conserns as you, but usually when I order something to go, the recitpt says "Carry out," so I would assume that the person taking the order isn't taxed on it.

What people don't realize is that at finer establishments with carry-out (i.e. The Cheesecake Factory) the cashier does ALL the food processing - ringing up the order, expediting it (expo usually is too busy with dine-in guests), packaging, and verifying that everythign is correct.

I was cashier at above restaurant for a year and the regulars knew how much work it took for carry out and tipped accordingly but there were jackoffs especially with corporate accounts who'd order $200 worth of food and not leave a dime, assuming the food "magically" appeared in the bags. Bastards.

Here's a twist on things:

I recently got carry out at Outback Steakhouse. They have a "curb-side carryout", where you park your car outside and they bring your order out to you. Is this a tip situation?

No. In my opinion all they are doing is walking outside. If they expect a tip, then I will just go in and get the food myself.
