I want to get a new NIC soon, because my 3Com (3C509B-TPO or 3C900.. I forget) is acting strangely now. So I want to pick up either a NetGear or LinkSys 10/100 NIC.
If you have a 3C905C and are trying to use it under Win2K, the NIC is very, very fussy about the driver and being in the right PCI slot. There is a link to a driver that works on the 2K compatability page. If you have another problem in another OS, sorry. BTW, I'd put Intel NICS first, then 3Com, then Linksys, finally Netgear and DLink.
No, the Win2K upgrade HCL in ms/windows/win2k (not exact URL but you get the point). Go to network and then manufacturers, type in 3Com and it will list all the cards. Most have drivers imbedded in 2K, but there are some holdouts like 905C-TXM (the network management card) and the Linksys v2.0 which is a real bear to get working in my experience. Best
i have used a 3com905C for the past year now with no issues. The only issue I have had was with a hub. The netgear hub would drop connection every so often if there was no activity on my computer ie power saving mode. I hooked it up to a Switch and it's all better now. I bought a lot of 10 3coms a while back. Never going back to Linksys....
