I use rounded in my own systems, but flat ones in other people's, unless they want to spend the money on rounded ones, which they usually don't.

Flat. Can't do this with round.
I agree. I had trouble with rounded cable corrupting data so I switched back to flat cables and tought my self to fold them "origami style".

Both of you guys have very nice folded flat cable setups. I tried to do a little cable folding, but it doesn't look good, partly because my cables weren't long enough, and partly because I've got two opticals, two HDs, a Zip drive, and a floppy drive all competing for space in a (way too tiny) medium tower ATX case.

Maybe I should get a case with a side window; that might encourage me to take all this stuff apart and re-do it properly.

My case is too small also. If I had a SOHO tower I could make the cables much neater, but right now I don't have the room to fold and hide them.

My newest pc has just round cables only,no flat ribbon cables. My old PC has the opposite of having just flat ribbon cables, however I plan to upgrade them to round ones only when I do my next major upgrade.

Still using flat but thinking of switching to Round. Is it true that they are too stiff and causes you to lose data?
I used to fold them origami style, but now with 2 optical drives and 6 hard drives... it's really hard to do origami or to keep it from being so cluttered

Mine are not stiff at all and they only lead to data corruption if the cables are too long. If you are really worried about data corruption then you can get the shielded cables with drain wires that attach to the case ground. That's first class right there.

They're not all that stiff. The thickness of them prevents you from doing any orgami but the whole point of round cables is so you don't need to. Never heard of data loss or any performance hit or anything - that would be totally unacceptable.

I'm using round because I have a clear side panel. I got the clear-coat round cables with the copper shielding. All my drives (2xHDD 1xCDRW 1xDVDRW 1xFloppy) are singles on their cable so I get the cables with only two connectors and usually get the short 10" ones.

A pair of those copper cables running side by side into a pair of raided drives just looks pretty cool.

Nice work Jaeger. Didn't you do a guide on that once? I thought I read one. The guy made a lot of use of the space "under" the motherboard tray to do his orgami and then ran everything out straight to the connectors.

I`ve never had any data corrupton, however if you use good quality round cables especially if you go over the standard 18" length you`ll get no problems.

Like all things the quality of round cables do vary ,so when you go to longer lengths it pays to make sure the cable is a good quality type which can handle the longer lengths and stop any possible data corruption.

Data corruption nowadays is really not an issue being there are lots of good quality round cables available, just don`t buy the crappy ones .

I've given pointers but nothing formal. It's a lot easier to route SCSI cables under the board than IDE ones, but it can be done. Luckily my current setup really doesn't require it. I think that whole underneath approach was made necessary by old AOpen boards, when they used to put the floppy connector up top near the back panel.

The rounded cables that caused my data corruption were 18" Coolermaster cables. These are considered "top of the line" cables and I had trouble with two different sets. Maybe they just had a "bad batch" but I'm never going to trust my (or my clients') data to out of spec cables again.

I make my own, and they work quite well. I can't justify the price until I actually need some cables, but right now I have too many already. When they raise the hard drive bar again and my cables become obsolete, maybe then I'll buy prefabricated round ones, but until then I will continue to make my own. Now I'm not cheap by any means, but if I can get away by doing something myself and it works just as well, I'll do so.

Wow! Jaeger66, is that the Antec PLUS1080AMG with TruePower 430W you got there!? It's nice I'll be getting the same case too! Any tips on how to fit things inside the case and any general thing you had experienced with the case to give me?
