Poll: AOE2...The best RTS?

I bought Age of Empires II last week, and haven't been able to stop playing it. For example, I spent about 4-5 hours on one game last night/this morning . Starcraft just pales in comparison to this game, IMO.

I'd like to hear everybody's opinions on this.

It is one of the best games out there, imo
Of course it has a steep learning curve if you want to be really good at this game, lots of micro-managing involved. But you just get a warm tingly feeling when you have a post-imperial economy booming and have command of a 100 man army filled with archers, champions and paladins...man i love that game

Yep, it's one of the very few games that I can play for a long time. It's very well done and nicely polished. The only thing that I don't like is that you have to do too much directing of your armies during battle to tell them what to do. It would be cool if you could (for example) tell them a certain objective and the price (in terms of equipment) you'd be willing to pay, and they would do their jobs from there.

If you like AOE, have you taken a peek at "Fate Of The Dragon" yet???? (Eidos). Now THAT looks to be hot

it really is one of the best rts out now...but dune 2 was SOOO good in its day. So good!

I've got sooo many memories about AOE and AOE2. hehe, do a search of my nickname in Yahoo and half the matches are for AOE/AOE2 stuff

sure sc doesnt shine in grafics, but the easy online play and the harmony between the 3 teams is what makes it enjoyable.

Ground Control is probably the best RTS I've ever played because it was different. Actually left the beaten "build base, build army, attack" path...

however, AOEII is still kicking around my room, gets played every once in a while, just not nearly enough.

Elite Teutonic Knights + Paladines, and pikemens Rules!! I love the look on 40 Paladines all in a marching position... with their silver armor and white horses.. Brings back memories.

Everyday after school, Me and 7 other friends connect to play a death match. Ahh... the memories. AOE2's been replaced by CS... but I still would love to play it with the old gang.


I was hoping Microsoft would make AOE3... but I guess they won't.

SSP, ensemble is working on RTS3, which could be anything. Might be AOE3 or a totally different RTS

Yea...
I have a friend who considers sc to be a better game because his seige weapons are notorious for killing his own units (although that is fixed in the expansion), so I put that in there to piss him off if he saw this thread.

What kinda idiot uses seige weapons? A villager can distroy a siege weapon.

Here's a game that I'm really looking forward to playing: Empire Earth.

It's supposed to go from Prehistory to about 200 years in the future. The IGN preview that I linked to explains it quite a bit better than I can.

I just recently bout Sacrifice and I believe it is much better than AOE2. If you have never played Sacrifice I would highly recommend trying the demo to see if you would like it. Be warned though, the graphics are awesome so you probably need a pretty good video card.
