my friend thinks that when you parallel park, "bumpers are for bumping" and you should are allowed to intentionally "bump" other cars with your bumper to park in a better position becuase that's what they're made for.

i think he's a complete tool and HATE when people bump my car when parking.

of course, he doesn't own his own car. what do you think.

I try my hardest not to bump anything when driving...it is only common sense.

How about an option for "Bumpers ARE for bumping, but your friend is still a tool."?
Because I agree that we have bumpers for a reason, and if you are trying to parellel park and you nudge an adjacent car, it's not a big deal.

But I STRONGLY disagree that that implies that you SHOULD bump the cars next to you. You should avoiding hitting other cars at all costs.

If bumpers are for bumping when you go to trade a car in, the dealer wouldn't take off
for scratches on the bumper.

Then why do so many cars have painted bumpers? If they were made for bumping then they wouldn't have paint to get scratched off.

People like your friend are the reason I put spikes on my bumper

If the spot is 6" longer than the length of your car than I can see how he would bump a couple times accidentally. But to purposely bump the other cars is ridiculous.

Bumpers may have been for bumping at one point in time, but today's dainty little decorative bastids are definitely NOT for bumping anything...

LOL yeah my ex gf has an '88 Camry and the bumper is literally a huge piece of rubber. Once we were sitting on the porch and as we watched, a neighbor tried to parallel park her brand new Jetta and gave her car a pretty good bump. She was like "OMG! She just hit my car!!!!"
And all I said was "Don't worry. There will be a lot more damage to her car than yours "

Bumpers are to protect the body work in case of a low speed collision, they are not meant to intentionally hit other cars because you have very poor driving skills.

i hope he doesn't drive an SUV (and no this is not an anti suv comment). I would be soo pissed off if someone driving an SUV attempted this type of parrallel parking and rode up on my bumper and really scratched my car up.

My fiberglass bumbers will last about 1 second in a crash or a bump LOL...they should be called "dismantlers" cos thats what they'll do to themselves if they get bumped.

Well your friend would immediately qualify for paying the damage he causes and if he takes off without notifying the owner of the bumped car he is even comitting a crime "fleeing from accident" - dunno how that is called in english

repairing a scratch in a painted bumper costs 100s of dollars - I do not think ppl would think it is intened for them to pay alot of money for a stupid fvck that shouldn't even have a license

it's called a hit and run.

I'll say one thing, if this clown ever intentionally hit my VW Bus, it would take two years of recuperation before he could drive again.

I have steel bumpers, if I "bump" someone, it'll tear off their hood/hatch.

would this type of "bumping" set off air bags??

Negative, several impact sensors have to be tripped simultaneously with a certain threshold of force.

Not anymore !!!

When the word was coined, they were chrome plated steel and could protect your major bodywork at least a little. Today there are no real bumbers unless you are involved in a crash.

Still POed me when someone scratched my chrome parking though.

If you hit a car parking, you need driving lessons or maybe an eye exam.
