"What kind of evidence would you like? Should he have made mountains to spell out "I AM GOD"?"

How about creating a really tasty diet soda ?

Would not the proof of physically, substantially knowing of God's existence be so far out of our realm of existence that we could stand no hope of conceiving it? And in the case of such cosmically fantastic proof of God's veracity, wouldn't the proof against God's existence be equally mind-boggling?

Something to think about when you go along in life demanding proof of God in exchange for your sovereignty.

If there were a God I'm sure he would be smart enough to be able to provide evidence of his existence in a way we puny mortals could understand.

What kind of evidence would you like? Should he have made mountains to spell out "I AM GOD"?

That would help He could go on talk shows and do some miracles. He could remake the "Oh God" movies.

Nope. I can think for myself and don't need some book dictating how to live my life.

edit: it looks like we have quite a few Christians here... Why don't we all start defending ourselves more in anti-religious conversations???

At first, I thought this was a simple survey to see the various beliefs of AT. Then when I read that, I realized the fool was just trying gather an army to help defend his faith, which he doesn't seem to be able to do by himself.

I'm AGNOSTIC - and yes, I know what it means (response to fjorner). My question to him would be does he even know what being a christian is. I'm sure after you break down his long-winded, overly wordy (congrats, you know how to use a thesaurus), it will say a christian is someone who allowed someone else to shove the bible down their throats.

Not all Christians feel the need to engage in arguments on messageboards.. hence, lots of Christians but very few *standing up* for themselves.

I think the real question here is:
Why do YOU visit this messageboard?
a. to defend Christianity
b. to make jokes
c. discuss things intelligently
d. for all the HOT Deals, but sometimes wander around to OT

I'm sure there are more categories that posts fall into, but this is a pretty basic framework.

There, now it's more like an ATOT thread.

dude, no fvcking flame wars! why don't you go STOP BREATHING

You're not a christian with that attitude. You're one of those pick and choose christians, who reads the bible, picks out the parts they really like and conveniently forgets about the other parts.

Christianity is winning thus far. I wonder if the results are accurate...

And, look again. Christianity is not 'winning'. Athiest/Agnostic/Other combined is larger, and thats not even counting the other religions you listed.

For the record, I'm one of those agnostic lost my way types. A while back, god decided my life is going to suck. 10 years later, I decided God can do some sucking of His own. Maybe someday we'll meet in the middle, but for now I'm perfectly content saying God hasn't shown himself to me in the way that is written in the bible, and for all intensive purposes does not exist in my opinion until further notice.

That is all.

If you've read my other posts about my opinions on the afterlife, you'd know that I believe you go wherever your mind is set on going in your afterlife when you die... Seems weird, I know, but it's what I believe.

example: If you believe you're going to Heaven, you're gonna go to Heaven

example: If you believe you're going to Hell, you're gonna go to Hell

Wow, you have the same belief I had... when I was about 6 years old... a remarkably ill informed belief for a "Christian"

Even if I did decide that god exists, I doubt I would be christian. Organized religion scares me. A lot. Religion is the work of men, not god.
I used to be a devout Christian. I'm not sure what I am now, but I guess I'm between Christianity and agnosticism -- I don't go to Church or much of anything; I believe in a personal relatonship between God and myself and that's pretty much it. Ever since I met my fiancee, who is from a VERY Catholic family, organized religion really turned me off on how ritualistic it is for my fiancee's family. I just couldn't swallow some things like how saints are supposed to take care of the lesser work of God and all that. Screw that -- God should be able to take care of everything if you believe that. Again, I feel religion is what YOU make of it, not what other people have made of it. It's all about personal discovery for me...

I thought if you were Christian, you took God to be the 3 O's??? Also, for those of you Catholics who are so called devout, do you believe that anyone who does not take Jesus Christ to be his savior will rot in hell (what a beautiful religion)??? Those are only the great words of your own religion.

I am Agnostic at the moment. I know I am not, nor will I ever be, a Christian. The bible is lame, and after studying a lot of this, I can tell you American Christianity is probably the most pathetic religion. No offense to anyone out there who believes in it, it's just my opinion. Also, there is no significant argument at all for Creationism, yet it's tough to say a superior being did not create us. I can say for sure, that Jesus Christ will never be my savior if I ever believe in that sort of thing. Haven't read this entire thread, I will check it out later.

Honestly, when it comes to religion I'm confused.

Used to be invloved but now just plain confused on the subject.
The only thing that's stuck is to live my days as if they were my last and try to do as much good as you can fit in.

<-----Just went to donate platelettes

Honesetly, I am trying to not do sin or do bad things, but I don't pray very often anymore.

The only thing I feel that I'm pretty sure about is this:

1)I will die
2) Decades after I die, people will either remeber me for what I did or what I didn't do, or they just won't remeber me at all.
3)If there is a God, hopefully understands how confused I am and will try to help me somehow.
4) Death be not proud, for you have not taken me yet.

is it the guilt/going-to-hell-if-i-dont-behave thing that builds and builds over the years? or is it that lonely feeling u get when talking to your god... :Q

I didn't read all the posts... just got down to this one and saw it... and I thought I should point out that Christianity is not a religion... Catholocism is a religion, Protestant is a religion, Baptist is a religion... all of those are Christian.

My simplified definition of a Christian... someone who believes Jesus Christ is the son of God and accepts him as his savior.

*EDIT* I think some of you are thinking Catholic when you see Christian... my dad is Catholic, taught me about that belief system, I decided I don't agree. For example... the ritualistic practices like, confession, communion, not eating red meat on Fridays... not to mention all the books that are in the Catholic bible that aren't in a single bible from any other religion.

don't we have one already? diet coke

Seriously though, Religion is confusing, as is the concept of God. I find it funny when people claim that those that beleive in the bible or those that have any thoughts about religion are moronic, blind followers, or dumb in any fashion. What greater thought is that than the reason for our existance? isn't that the fundamental question at the base of most people's unsettled hearts?

To call the religious foolish or sheep is to ignore the importance of questions of the soul. Think about it, were Rousseau, Hobbes, Locke, Einstein, Plato, Thomas Jefferson, and so on all foolish followers? I am not saying that their conclusions about God and man are correct, but I am trying to validate the very study of religion that people mock here in this forum.

I do agree with the comment above (before the diet soda part). I am glad there are mysteries that take time and effort and belief to solve. How boring would the world be if everying worked as we wanted and if we knew everything! I think God set his plan (and yes, I am a Christian) as he did so he would have followers who cared about him and his saving grace. It takes more thought capacity than we could ever own to wrap our minds around God, but thanks to his work we have the opportunity to understand a small chunk of his character.

Same here. I believe there was a God at one point way back, but I don't believe in any religon at all. Things are just too branched out.

I guess the short of it is, I'm non-denominational.

Mindstorm-
I'm sorry you think that about Christians. It is a very diverse category. Some are much more into biblethumping and study than others. there are baptists who think that all catholics are going straight to hell. that's not really logical.

personally I haven't ever read the bible outside of school or listened to it outside of church. there's a lot less brainwashing than you think... the stereotypical superchristian you see in movies and on TV is not reality. there's a lot more to calling yourself a christian, or even a religious person, than swallowing the pill of the bible.

also, i don't think any rational person really thinks that people who don't believe in Jesus have a one-way ticket to hell. Now, I am not surprised that some peopel think this, but it defies everything about our one common God of love and unrelenting forgiveness. But, I don't think believing you will go to heaven is really the idea. I guess it really all depends on a concept of Heaven and Hell and the immortal spirit.

mindstorm, your opinion and your aggressive tone about religion makes me wonder either if you had a bad experience or if you're not mature enough to get that faith is not a control mechanism pointed at rebellious people.
