You seem to have a strange image of Atheists in your mind. Remember that there are countries or at least counties where at least half the population are Atheists or being close to it. And I doubt that they're all pissed or screwing at the same time.
And if I remember a certain phrase in the bible correctly, as a Christian you should do the latter part, too, or how do you want to create the next generation for the Lord?!

How about creating a really tasty diet soda ?

don't we have one already? diet coke

Seriously though, Religion is confusing, as is the concept of God. I find it funny when people claim that those that beleive in the bible or those that have any thoughts about religion are moronic, blind followers, or dumb in any fashion. What greater thought is that than the reason for our existance? isn't that the fundamental question at the base of most people's unsettled hearts?

To call the religious foolish or sheep is to ignore the importance of questions of the soul. Think about it, were Rousseau, Hobbes, Locke, Einstein, Plato, Thomas Jefferson, and so on all foolish followers? I am not saying that their conclusions about God and man are correct, but I am trying to validate the very study of religion that people mock here in this forum.

I do agree with the comment above (before the diet soda part). I am glad there are mysteries that take time and effort and belief to solve. How boring would the world be if everying worked as we wanted and if we knew everything! I think God set his plan (and yes, I am a Christian) as he did so he would have followers who cared about him and his saving grace. It takes more thought capacity than we could ever own to wrap our minds around God, but thanks to his work we have the opportunity to understand a small chunk of his character.
A very good post. I think that all religions contain truth, Christian or not. Personally, I am Mormon.

Atheist here. I have better things to do with my time than worship to some invisible fairy in the sky. Things like enjoying my life far outrank bending over backwards to accomodate some sort of overly-egotistical fruit fly. If I wanted to be opressed, I would live in a 3rd world country that supports it.

Yes, sort of, no.

What does it take to be a Christian? Technically a "Christian" is one who follows the teachings of Jesus "Christ". In Practice though, a Christian is one who is part of a greater group who follow each other, the blind leading the blind. More people would respect Christians if they followed Jesus, unfortunetly "Christians" are all too often caught up in a race with each other to determine who's the better "Christian". In short, most Christian belong to a High School Clique, to diverge from the norm leads to expulsion.

Look at Jesus's life and actions and tell me that your "Church" or Social Group have any resemblance to Jesus Life and Actions.

Just saw this thread for the first time. I'd just like to say that I am a Christian and am pleasantly surprised at the results of the poll! That's great!!! I would have thought we'd be in the minority given some of the flames I've seen in threads having to do with God/Jesus/Christianity.

I saw a bumper sticker that says "Jesus Love Me, but Hates You!"

I thought that was pretty funny.

i'm agnostic and atheist btw.

Agnostic and atheist are non-intersecting classifications. You can't be both.

sorry, false. i don't believe in a god, but i also don't believe that it is possible to know one way or another

Agnostic:
One who holds that the existence of anything beyond and behind material phenomena is unknown and (so far as can be judged) unknowable, and especially that a First Cause and an unseen world are subjects of which we know nothing.

Atheist:
One who denies or disbelieves the existence of a God.

both from OED

simply not believing in something does not mean you *know* it does not exist. it's kind of surprising how many people think that you can't be both agnostic and something else... *shrug*

You suck at polls. The title will bring in a majority of Chritians, slewing the results in their favour.

If you change it to 'What is your chosen religion' then the sample will be more representative.

No doubt. I have no need to go to church and worship and do that crap. Waste of time.

I think the majority of Americans would classify themselves as Christian. It's just that on these boards, the agnostics are louder, so there appears to be more. I'm a Christian, but don't go to church. I don't think that makes me less of a Christian, and my dad's even a Presbyterian minister. I think someone hit the nail on the head when they said many Christians think it's a game to see who's the better Christian. I got to my cousins' houses, and they have Christian sayings framed on their walls, Christian books lying out on the coffeetable, their pets and children have biblical names. Does that make you a better Christian if you name your dog Sampson and your son Noah? And when I reply to a post about my faith, I resist the need to blurt out how much I love my Savior Jesus Christ. Not because I'm ashamed, or have a need to hide it, but because it's not necessary. Jesus said that we shouldn't boastfully pray, to show others how great of Christians we are, but rather to do it in the privacy of your homes.

Now why is it that, even after 9/11, if you would have said you're a Muslim Hater, you would have been labeled discriminatory and intolerant? Could you say you're a Jew Hater? It's acceptable to hate Christians, because they're in the majority. When are people going to learn?
