Christians are mostly redneck liberal hippie conservatives who emit a foul and unpleasant oder.

There, now it's more like an ATOT thread.

You live in LZ, and your talking about redneck!!! Lol

LZ??? I don't think he was being serious either.

Neither was I. LZ=Lake Zurich

Not THIS one. It means "without knowledge". Specifically, in this case, without the sure and certain knowledge of whether or not there is a God. Seeing as how it is impossible to prove the non-existence of something, I think the burden of proof is squarely in God's camp. Since no proof has been forthcoming from God (that I have been privy to), no proof either for or against exists for me.

Ergo, I do not know whether there is a God. Agnostic until such time as proof is presented. Hey, my business card says I'm a scientist, and my training says show me evidence.
When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not.
Yep, that's me, pretty much.

I should put Muslim (my family is religious and I used to be up until last year), but I put agnostic because I don't know anymore.

I don't need a flame suit. I intend to go to heaven.

And yes, I'm a Christian.

Why is he a jackass? He's been really nice to me, and I had a pretty rough childhood. Perhaps is this belief that he is a jackass that is preventing him from truly helping you? Just MHO

I know.... maybe sticky for a day, mods???

And it's not really accurate because it just takes a sampling of the people who volunteer to take the poll. Some people probably see "Christian" in the title and just pass right over it. I'm surprised by the number of people who voted agnostic. I thought most agnostics thought they were atheists.

Well, I guess Occam's Razor does have a tendency to reduce things like you have explained... unfortunately you have left one part of the equation out: Faith.

If you don't have faith, then you know there is no God.

If you do have faith, then you know there is.

So ask yourself that question... do you believe someone is looking out for you? Whatever direction your answer goes in, there is the solution to your spiritual ambivalence.

Just because you refuse to answer the question of whether or not you know God exists, doesn't mean that there IS no answer.

As for proof... what good would that do? If God is God, then how could us humans... mere chemical reactions and intricate bioelectric impulses... dream of comprehending proof of God's existence? Would not the proof of physically, substantially knowing of God's existence be so far out of our realm of existence that we could stand no hope of conceiving it? And in the case of such cosmically fantastic proof of God's veracity, wouldn't the proof against God's existence be equally mind-boggling?

Something to think about when you go along in life demanding proof of God in exchange for your sovereignty.

If there were a God I'm sure he would be smart enough to be able to provide evidence of his existence in a way we puny mortals could understand.

What kind of evidence would you like? Should he have made mountains to spell out "I AM GOD"?

I am a Christian.

Regarding the following edit in the original post:
edit: it looks like we have quite a few Christians here... Why don't we all start defending ourselves more in anti-religious conversations???

I can't defend particular Christians unless I know their particular actions. Some actions are defensible, some are not. Christian or non-Christian.

As far as trying to give reasons for the hope that lies within me, I have done that quite extensively. I am willing to contend for the faith, but hopefully I have little interest in contending with people. I like people. Therefore, whatever interest I have in that kind of debate is probably narcissistic and unhealthy. Do I need someone else to believe what I believe? If I do, I have betrayed my own cyber-name

I guess I'm an agnostic but I sometimes wish my family and I were easy going Christians (i.e. not overly religious).
