All tech forums are plagued by Gamers, every time you talk about cpus or gpu, most "experts" are simple gamers.

Are still in this forum pure tech-enthusiasts ???

"Plagued"? Ugh, get over yourself.

Consumer GPUs are built to make games look pretty. You're in a forum about consumer GPUs. Deal with it.

What matters in the end is how pretty the latest GPU makes your games look, and how fast it can run them.

That said, I find it hard to get excited about new games these days. I get way more excited about new GPUs and CPUs. I still play a lot of games, but I hardly ever buy the latest AAA titles that really show off the power of modern GPUs. I tend to buy indie titles, simulators, strategy/building games. The latest Call of Battlefield or whatever might look pretty, but this type of game only holds my interest for 5 minutes.

So many labels, maaan.

But seriously, we're here because we enjoy discussing graphics hardware. Isn't that enough?

I agree, enthusiast and gamer are both marketing labels, which serve to stereo-type, exploit and ultimately deride people. Synonymous with terms like "target" or "mark".

Unlike gay pride, gamer pride is never going to work to make games cool and acceptable, despite the fact that video games have become ubiquitous. Instead video games will always be a guilty pleasure at best and a habit and addiction at worst, as well as a bottomless pit of wasted time.

Even though jokingly people like to compare MMOs and free-to-play games to hard addictive substances like crack cocaine, alcohol is actually a much better, in fact almost perfect analogy.
- Everybody tried both, stuff is widely available
- The message is both heavily advertised, as well as spread by people who don't know any better.
- A propensity to either is generally seen as an unattractive trait by the opposite sex.
- There is huge industry behind alcohol and games.
- Both are widely accepted but generally frowned upon.
- There are plenty of people proud of their exploits.
The list goes on and on.

However the most striking analogy is probably that just like alcohol, it's basically impossible to casually enjoy video games. Casual drinking/gaming just isn't really enjoyable, both calls for either a binge or a habit. Many games are designed to become a habit / an obsession. Just like regular consumption of glasses of wine or an after work beer, which by the way is seared and pounded into out subconscious by relentless advertisement, ... regular consumption eventually satisfies the definition of alcoholism.

Of course people start playing video games much earlier than they start to drink.

The take away from this analogy is that video games are really only acceptable and unproblematic at social gatherings, when played with others. That doesn't include online multi-player, which is -in one word- anti-social ^^.

GTFO! Unless my team is winning I got NOTHING to discuss! /s

I still play more games than I spend posting here. I guess I'm an enthusiast because I like tech, and I can finally afford it after growing up in poverty.

But I love gaming and would game on anything regardless of specs.

I'm both. Yeah. Both.

I play games but I'd no longer consider myself a gamer. I don't think I actually ever was, really.

I mostly play strategy games and always have. Haven't owned a console since Nintendo (version 1).

So I'm more of a tech enthusiast.

With two kids, a wife, a life and a mortgage I rarely find the time to just sit and game anymore (although games are still in this cheating heart). Nevertheless, I still turn into a sweaty palmed geek at the thought of a new video card or processor release and find myself pouring over in depth tech reporting despite having no intention to buy the product.

So I'd say both.

You act like they're mutually exclusive. They're not.

The amount of time I actually spend playing video games is miniscule. I definitely post more than I play. Sad but true.

Both although I tend to lean more towards Tech Enthusiast. Most games these days are over-glorified tech demos with little substance beyond how good they look. On the other hand, if someone could make a hardcore JRPG with the latest iteration of UnrealEngine 4 or CryEngine that would only run at 30 frames per second on a 1080 SLI setup I would be beyond hyped for such a thing and not just because of the graphics, rather the gameplay as well.

I haven't gamed in a few years now. I bought my GPU only for content creation: 3d rendering and video rendering. Only for personal use, not getting paid for it.

But, I find myself reading about the technology even when I have no itention on purchasing something soon.

I'm in the same boat as you... but I play proudly... when all 3 are sleeping...
I also got my 12-year-old son to play with me in League of Legends but now that he's better than me, ...
