For those of you who previously owned Intel and went amd (or were always an amd user) have you already decided to change platforms?
You know what Im going to do, what about you?

As a general rule, I do not consider upgrading unless I can double my cpu performance, and I don't see Conroe doing that for me anytime soon as jury is still out on Conroe performance. Some of the results I'm seeing are less than exciting when compared to dual core AMDs such as my oc'd Opty 165. Also, the lack of native 64-bit support is of concern. Not a big deal right now, but in a year or two's time it could be.

Since I'm already running Intel, I'm planning to upgrade to Conroe. Shouldn't be that big of a deal, just a CPU + MB swap. Will keep the rest of my system as is.

Please don't post stuff like this.
Why?
Because I can see where this is going, and I asked nicely?
Where is this going ? Felix is just expressing himeself like some people do. Have you PM'ed a mod on it ? You should if you feel that way, right ? Isn't that what you do when you don't like what somebody says Avalon ?

Yes, I'm going to waste my money on a sidegrade to Conroe because it will supposedly give me bigger gains in gaming performance than an upgrade to the r600. No, wait, actually it wont... I guess I'll be keeping my opty165 for a while longer then.

4 GHz probably not, i'm banking that 3.5+ Ghz won't be too hard to get on air cooling though
Rather optimistic considering the 2.66GHz stock highend. Getting merely to 3GHz would be amazing enough if the previews aren't too good to be true. Although I'd be happy to hit 2.66 with Intel's cheapest Conroe solution.
That being said I definitely would not kick anything to the curb, I'd put it to good use.
Actually the highest clocked version is the 3.33 Ghz Extreme Edition Conroe, and there is a 2.93 Ghz model as well.
I said *native* support. I could be wrong, but doesn't Conroe have just EMT64 which isn't true 64-bit processing.Originally posted by: stevty2889
Umm, where did you come up with the lack of 64bit support? Conroe/Merom/Woodcrest all have 64bit....Originally posted by: Zim

I will likely go to Conroe. If performance holds true and Conroe is cheaper than equivalent AMD, it's a no brainer. Price comparison with AMD & Intel
