<< One of the biggest problems I see in this country in recent times is the wholesale lack of any sort of civic responsibility >>

Best thing for concerned citizens to do is lead by example, and hope others will follow suit.

<< I am NOT pointing any fingers here (not at you, Red, as I'm fairly certain you don't qualify under this rubrick), >>

People should be Civic Minded and at the very least should vote. Defending your country is your duty, but I don't ever want to see a situation like Viet Nam again. I have nothing but respect for those who served there because it was a terrible situation that most didn't know what they were getting themselves into when they joined and those who were drafted and had to serve there were just meat for the Politicians to use. It was a horrible waste of human life all around. Of course there are those who served there that might disagree and that is fine because the put their ass on the line for what the believed in. It's those who are all talk that call others un American for not lining up for the next wholesale slaughter that pisses me off. I can assure you that if our freedom was on the line Americans would volunteer by the droves to protect it.

"The idea is not to die for your country, it's to make the other son-of-a-bitch die for his."

Gen. Patton

Although I'm not hardcore US military, I'd join any war I was drafted for. However, if it was something similar to WWII, I'd probably go and enlist. The US has the best-equipped military in the world. You don't want to fight for the winning team to preserve the rights you whine about the government infringing all the time, get the hell out; it's as simple as that.

As long as that is what you are fighting for then most shouldn't have a problem. UInfortunately it isn't as simple as that because of the Fsckwad Leaders we seem to elect.

couldn't have said it better myself. Notice how history moves in cycles...we seem to be in a repeat of the "roaring twenties".....perhaps another war is just what we need.

Although this may be true, like it or not he was elected within the confines of the law. Don't like it? Do something, don't sit here and pick people apart for their views, call a congressman, etc. and get them to do something about it. Because it'll be that congressman who votes on the act of war.

If I don't then those with ignorant views might not realize how ignorant their views are.

<< Although this may be true, like it or not he was elected within the confines of the law >>

Yeah baby, follow the leader..not. It's foolish to follow a weak leader and he is an extremely weak leader

Hehehe, my congressman is Gary Condit. I'll call him alright, what do you want me to call him?

There are probably more than a couple women out there that would call him "sugar daddy" from the sounds of it.

funny...he was elected within the confines of the law too. This from experience: you will accomplish very little with such a cynical mindset. Assuming you're old enough to vote, you have the power to not elect such officials. Don't like the way he's doing his job, call him, support the opposing candidate, start a violent revolution to get him out of office...don't sit here and poke fun from afar when there's no real effect or consequence. That puts you on the same level as the people who deserted during Vietnam.

Hey, fscknut, have you ever even MET a Kuwaiti? I was fortunate to have met several. They are very nice people and are exceptionally grateful for what the U.S. did for them, regardless of what the strategic motivations were. I'd say the only "crap" around here is the one who wrote the quote above.

Well,AFAIK kuwait is one of the counties that provies you americans (mainly)
with the dirt cheap oil your gas-guzzlers use..so,even if it's for pure exploitation
it's still not for sh*t..think about that the next time you go for a cruise on your
2 litre car and don't have to think about gas costs..
kuwaiti ppl probably buy oil cheaper than bread because of this exploitation BTW..
IMHO,the least US can do in this case is fight for kuwait and keep it out of Iraq's hands
Please do correct me if I'm wrong about prices in kuwait AndrewR..
