Not to mention the fact that, as good as he is, he only has 9 fingers. He lost one of them to a pump-handle when he was a kid.

I refuse to pick a favorite. Each one has a style, each one has a signature. Since none of them are comparable, I'll post what I think of them individually.

Al Di Meola: Two years ago I got the chance to see him front row, in a very small room. He is simply AMAZING, combining technique, melody and passion. Ceratinly one of the best accoustic guitar players alive.

Brian Setzer: I don't know why having an orchestra makes him a bad player. Guitar =/= rock and roll. His focus is in a different style, which is undoubtely unique and fun.

David Guilmour: His guitar work shines on (no pun) Pink Floyd. I've listened to his solo stuff, which I do like a lot but has uninspiring guitar work.

Eric Clapton: No comments.

Eric Johnson: The guitar god that likes to be considered human. Has much more melody in his works than fellow gods Satriani, Vai and Malmsteen.

Joe Satriani: Can combine technique and melody better than Malmsteen ... one of the few guitar gods that I can listen a whole instrumental album through.

Steve Vai: Very fun to listen to only a few times.

Malmsteen: Has the technique. Lacks everything else.

Paco de Lucia: I've only listened to his work when he's part of the guitar trio ... incredible stuff nonetheless.

Keb' Mo': What if Eric Clapton was born black. That's Keb' Mo'.

Eddie Van Halen: Another guitar god. Van Halen is what rock is all about.

You have at least 5 people here who named BB King, you even say you added him.

But he is not on there.

How can you not have Angus Young in your poll, for christ sake, AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night !

Eric Clapton over Joe Satriani? Eric Clapton is awesome, but I don't think he holds a candle to Joe.

I will remove ones with 0 votes though

Who is Steve Howe, Ben Harper, Tom Petrucci, and Paul Gilbert?

Ben Harper

He's not extremely well known but he does some awesome guitar work, especially with the slide. (He did the solo at the end of Jack Johnson's Flake) Of course, he's no Steve Vai or Clapton or anything but Harper > Kravitz, who IS on your list of guitarists.

He was in fact there, I believe removed due to lack of votes.

Face it, you'll always leave somebody off. And it depends what the poll is asking. Is it asking who is your favorite guitarist? I don't think so, it specifically says "Best Living Guitarist". Now way are Sambora, Kravitz, that Jane's Addiction guy, and half of those other people better than guys like Satriani, Vai, and a bunch of them who you forgot....Malmsteen, PETRUCCI, and HAMMET. You could learn to play half of the guys stuff on this list within 6 months of picking up a guitar, but you have ever tried to play Petrucci, Hammet, or Satriani stuff? That being said, Satriani gets my vote, but only for his older stuff (Surfing with the Alien, Flying in a Blue Dream, etc.)

Thats being VERY bias though. I've listen to Dream Theater...ick. But Janes Addiction? Realize that he was on drugs just about all the time and the beautiful music he was still able to create. Janes Addiction had a much bigger impact on music in whole, than say Dream Theater or freaking Malmsteen. Not that these guys are "bad" or anything, but just cause they can play fast and play a bunch of scales doesn't mean they are the best guitarist.

I guess it really all depends on what you are rating.

Best Guitarist = Best player/ability or best player/writer.

Personally I'd rather listen to Janes Addiction anyday over Dream Theater, Malmsteen, and Joe Satriani.

<<You could learn to play half of the guys stuff on this list within 6 months of picking up a guitar, but you have ever tried to play Petrucci, Hammet, or Satriani stuff?>>

Kirk Hammett? Yeah I've seen 12 year olds back in the day in guitar stores playing his stuff. It's not that impressive. He was a good song writer awhile back, but you are bluring the line between being able to play fast and play good music. Which is more important. That guy from Nitro is freaking BAD ASS, probably better than ANY of the guitar players listed above. TECHNINCALLY though. But he cant write sh!t for music. So does that really make him the best guitar player?

Disclaimer: I've been playing guitar for 16 years.

Is he missing a finger on his Fret hand?? Or his pick hand? That makes a world of difference

added Petrucci and BB King once again, if no one votes for them will remove them again.

I thought it was a tossup between Steve Vai and Satriani, picked Vai though
