I've been accused of over-using a term that is apparently offensive to owners of the current 90nm design Xbox 360.

I'm willing to be educated, to follow the majority opinion, and if necessary to undergo sensitivity training to learn the acceptable ways to describe the differences between the old and new designs.

If you voted against using the term "Reliable Edition" please suggest a more politically correct way to describe the expected change in repair rates.

I always cracked up at the "Reliable Edition" monikor, although I think it's a fair assessment of what everyone is expecting from it, so I voted as such.

I"m hoping it actually is reliable. I think if it is we'll be seeing a LOT more new 360 owners.

More 360 owners = many more games

theres no reason why the new model wont fail just as horribly as the first.

Well when microsoft is losing a hell of a lot of money due to warranty repairs, this is the PERFECT opportunity to fix their mistakes and make a reliable system. I'm betting that they are prepared this time around.

I hope my 360 does fail after the revised models are out so I can get it replaced with a HDMI enabled 360

Huh? Part of the problem is from the heat, and cooler running chips and and a better heatsink setup will definitely help. Not to mention the billion dollar bill in a single quarter gives them some motivation to fix things.

I agree that that is no guarantee that it will be problem free, but there's definitely a reason to believe they will solve the problems. If nothing else, Microsoft has proven they will take care of their customers.

It's not offensive, it's just stupid.

It's like "DHITB" and all of the other stupid phrases people start here... it gets old fast.

Reliable Edition is a misnomer since we don't know if the 65nm version will be reliable.

Nah, I bought the PS3 mostly for blu-ray, and I plan to buy a 65nm 360. I might even get a wii someday if there are enough games I want to play (I'm not a mario or zelda fan).

I'm actually more of a PC gamer, my last 4 games were Neverwinter 2, Arcanum, KOTOR 2, and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I'm hoping the 65nm 360 is out before Mass Effect so I can play it without a long wait.

So for the Reliable Edition haters, would you alsol object to this wording?

"You should wait to buy a 360 until the 65nm redesign because it will hopefully be more reliable" ?

Calling this one the Reliable Edition would mean Microsoft has to acknowledge their earlier mistake.

The odds of that are slim.

Who cares? Why do you have to flaunt this around like it's a big deal what you call a console? I have a 90NM XBOX and I don't give a damn what you call the 65NM revision.

umm, they did admit their mistake by extending the original 3 month warranty to 3 years for overheating.

I'm not offended. Had I been involved with the R&D, manufacturing, or marketing, of the 360, I might be, but I wasn't. Nor should any other rational person not involved, be offended, but there is no accounting for the odd things people will get emotionally invested in. The raging Blu-Ray v. HD-DVD war is another head shaker for myself.

And they've had execs come out and publicly admit that mistakes were made and they aren't happy about it. They just haven't gone into detail what those mistakes were.

They acknowledged their BLATANT mistake, but do they really deserve respect for just doing what they SHOULD?

Awesome about that warranty though... that means mine is good for another 2 years!!!! w00t!!!

BTW... does the extended warranty cover any failure, or just the rings of death, overheating, etc.!?!?

To my knowledge, the extension is for the RRoD issue only.

The Inquirer

I'm sure there will be as this only reduces the cost of the system even more. This was the exact reason MS bought the rights to ATI's design in the first place...so they could control the manufacturing and therefor prices of the chips. I'd love to see a redesigned "small" edition later on using the a 45nm chip and costing $120.

they dont deserve any respect for it, it was way too late, too little too late, merely a move to save face.

They know what the problem was with the previous design. They just took a 1 billion loss so they can replace the old ones. They're not about to release a revamped design that has the same problems. Nothing is 100%, but it's ridiculous to think that they're going to waste a billion dollars and not make sure the problem is fixed with the redesign first.

So yes, there are many reasons why it won't fail as horribly as the first.

I'm tired of the "reliable edition" phrase by the way. I doubt anybody's offended. You've just overused it to the point where i'm waiting for you to come in and use it in every 360 post.
