We go camping every year. But we don't live on berries and run around naked so I voted for the Boy Scout option. High Cliff park in WI is great and so is Devil's Lake. We go Tubing on the Wolf RIver (not white water rafting) and are heading there the weekend of July 17th or so.

Lots of places in Utah, and then open-sky, sleeping bag only in the Italian Alps.

I've canoed and camped in the boundary waters that border Canada from WI / MN. Did it for 2 weeks. Canoed, camped, fished, and kept my .45 at my side when cooking, just incase any friendly bears wanted in on my dinner.

During the summer, I camp almost every single weekend in my VW Bus, that's why you do not see me post here on the weekends.

I went on memorial weekend and it sucked, I felt like a sardine at the campground. I like being out in the open much more.

I grew up in Oregon where almost everybody goes camping at least occasionally.

Worst camping I went on was at the bay side of Assateague Island, Maryland. It was beautiful, but the mosquitoes were extremely thick and the horseflies were relentless. I later camped on the ocean side, which was wonderful as you can camp on the beach and listen to the waves as you fall asleep. This I recommend for all campers.

Forgot to mention, I have camped in every single state, Alaska and Hawaii included.

Went camping for the spring break before this one. Spent 3 days out there with 6 people. It was alotta fun. We ate a bunch of fruits and berries and fished. Didn't take anything but a tent, knife, and first aid kit with us.

I used to go camping a lot growing up with my uncle and cousins. We'd camp out at the river for 2-3 days at a time and do nothing but fish the whole time. Great times!

I hiked the West Coast Trail on the far side of Vancouver Island in 2000, it's about 70km I think.
Very beautiful over there, although the trail is extremely rugged. It took us 5 days to hike the trail,
some nights we just slept on the beach without our tents.

When I lived in the mountains of North GA, I used to go all the time. Now that I'm back in the flats of South FL, I never do.

anyways my idea of camping now includes bathrooms, showers and ROOM SERVICE.

Mine would be other, having spent several nights in the Oregon wilderness before... though with a camp tent and a propane stove.

My family and I go camping a couple times a year actually. We've never gone without tents, but that's mostly because we go camping in areas where -- either by virtue of local wildlife/bugs or the local weather -- protection from the elements is key. Beyond that we pretty much rough it, though because of Mom's bad knee we can no longer go backpacking. We all pile in the van and go poking around, seeing what we can find. We do bring a propane stove with us, and I usually have my laptop in the van just because often there's nothing to do in the 5 hours it takes to get from where we are to where we want to camp, but there's still a good deal of "roughing it" involved.

Backpacking is fun too, provided I've had enough time to get my feet in shape. (They're small and get sore unless I do a couple months of exercises beforehand) Sure, no warm food, but the best views are at least a few miles from the nearest road.

FYI, I used to live in the San Jose Bay Area. (Fremont specifically) Now I live in the Carson City/Reno Nevada area.

Why no warm food? Of all the miles I've hiked, I've only gone without warm food by choice, and even then, only for a few hundred miles.

Never been in the boy scouts, but I have been camping most of my life. Usually go for a week or so once a year. Past couple of years we've been going to Yosemite.

I went camping last year with one my my friends and my sister. We brought alcohol, fod, etc. It was soo hot, and we ran out of food the next morning. All we had was hot alcohol (vodka.) And there was nothing to do. We fished for an hour. It was stupid. Were thinking about going again this year but were gonna go somewhere else.
