POLL: CD WRITER SPEED

Smart and Friendly (outsourced Yamaha, I believe) 8x20, SCSI, no rewrite. Bought on clearance as SAF was going out of business, included a non-BIOS (aka, low-end) Adaptec SCSI card. At just under $200 at the time, it looked like a hot deal to me.

I love my SCSI burner. I will get another SCSI when the time comes.

Smart and Friendly 12x4x32 SCSI

It's pretty much dead though... only burns once out of every.. 10 tries or so. Reads fine but won't write, just spins up makes some weird noise and says error.

Any ideas for a new CHEAP drive... SCSI or IDE, don't really care.

How are those Lite-Ons? They're cheap enough...

My old burner, which is now my aunt's is a Mitsumi 4x2x8x paid $160 for it new.

My new burner is an acer 10x4x32 which I paid nothing for. Friend got a new one, this one didn't work, took it apart, found out what was wrong and got a perfectly working burner.

4x4x24x mitsumi writer. got the beasy when it was top of the line for $200. Now my dad wont let me get one of them crazy 24x writers. guess ill wait for the 32x.
