POLL: Compare These Two Systems

These two systems are relatively equivalent. I play games 70% of the time. Both systems will be running a Dell 2405FPW display. I read the recent review on Anandtech (see here), and it's obvious that the AMD system is a superior build.

Here's the question: How much MORE is the AMD System worth? If you were spending, say, $1,800 on the AMD System, what type of discount would you need to accept the Intel System?

The Intel System:
Intel Pentium D 830 (3.0Ghz)

The AMD System:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (2.0Ghz)

Shared:
GeForce 7800 GTX
2x1GB DDR2 (667mhz)
2x160gb SATA w/ NCQ
Audigy 2 ZS

Well, if it was an overclocking system, the 3800+ is the obvious choice, since it can easily bump up its clock by 20%, and probably more like 30%. The 830, on the other hand, has a hard time overclocking by 15%, and might not make it beyond 8-10%. Factor in the existing performance advantage at stock, and you'd have to discount the Intel system by at least $150 or so before I'd buy it. And when I did, I'd immediately sell it and get something worth owning.

Doesn't look to rosy for Intel. Ack. I wish Dell would start building AMD Systems... that would make all these insane deals soooo much better.

I reckon the Intel system is worth about $200 less in terms of performance.
However if you were biased towards Intel a 640 or 650 would be more appropriate for playing games.
With AMD I'd stick with the X2 though.

The X2 3800 is superior to the Pentium-D at stock, and also has more overclocking potential, I'd have to get one heck of a deal(maybe $400 less) to go for the Intel system. Oh, and you can't have the DDR2 shared..AMD doesn't use DDR-2 until socket M2 comes out, and has no performance advantage for AMD anyway.

No way would I take the Intel. If I'm not happy with the performance of the Intel, why bother to have it at all? In that case the money would be wasted.

Then you want AMD. A64 rigs wipe the floor with Intels at gaming. If you're going to the expense of a 7800GTX, 2GB of RAM and RAID, why skimp on the processor? You obviously have enough cash, just get the best.
