Pick the CPU you would most likely purchase for your next system.
Note that both the Athlon Thunderbird 133mhz(266mhz DDR) and Palomino has not been released yet.

Edit: Oops forgot the 133mhz(266)

Athlon T-Bird for me. I have a Duron now but I'll replace that before Palomino is released.

I'm about to build using a T-Bird 1.0-1.2, can't decide which yet. A 100mhz part in a 133fsb mobo, the Abit K7A-R.

Oooops, I voted for Duron. Actually I just bought a Duronic system so that would make my next purchase a Palomino system. I had ABIT KT7A with Duron 650 @ 975 MHz (300 MHz FSB) and 512 MB of PC133 Infineon memory running Windows 2000. Used a FOP32 to cool it off.

Looking at my upgrade history, with typically about doubling of CPU speed at each upgrade - ie; 4MHZ PC to 12MHZ 286, 12MHZ 286 to 66MHZ 486 (more than double there), 66MHZ 486 to 133MHZ Pentium, 133MHZ Pentium to 266MHZ Pentium MMX, 266MHZ Pentium MMX to 450 MHZ Celeron, 450MHZ Celeron to 935MHZ PIII.....the next upgrade will have to be a 1.8GHZ "something" if I want to stay with my established upgrade habits. Looks like a Pentium5 or AMD equivelant in two to three years.

LOL KR I know how you feel, and I could probably type up a huge lists of computer upgrades. I do notice that I'm purchasing and upgrading a lot more often than before. Averaging around ever 6 months instead of every 2 years

This has been the longest in 2 years that i've had one cpu in my system. My trusty 650E @988(which i've gotten 8 months of use out of) will be replaced by....

Probably something dual, maybe palamino.. not entirely sure yet.

Well, since I've actually decided to buy a Coppermine 933 and a CUSL2-C, that pretty much would be my answer. If not for the price drop, most likely would have been a T-bird (all my friends who know of my distaste for AMD zelotry would have gotten a kick out of hearing that) but as far as REALLY, REALLY wanting an upgrade, I'd have to say a P4 on 2ghz on whatever ASUS board they have by then and some RDRAM (thank goodness the prices are down to a somewhat reasonable level....

Thunderbird 1.2GHz, but not for a while. My Duron/A7V combo has been great, not only in performance but (surprisingly) stability. It's more stable than my 440BX systems.

I'm not against Intel per se; in fact, I have spent a lot of money on Intel and I still own a couple of Intel systems (including a dualie); but AMD is on a roll at last, in both raw performance and also performance-per-dollar. The Thunderbird family is also the fastest x86-type processor in RC5, which is a consideration for us competitive RC5 participants.

Since I already have a nice Intel system I'd like to pickup a T-Bird between 1 GIG and 1.2 GIG for another system..

I'm in the "I don't know" camp! It just depends on what is the best affordable option when my current rig bits the dust.
