You're never going to see the performance that SSD is capable of, if you you just cloned your old drive and left it in Legacy mode. You need AHCI enabled and a fresh Windows install to achieve max performance from your SSD..

Depends on the queue depth. Most desktop loads don't have a high queue depth, so her performance loss will be slight.

As I keep saying, no system, of mine has ever been in legacy mode.

It's back in RAID mode, returned it there when I got the BSOD.....and, the second William (sercretly nice and secretly VERY SAVVY) posted this:
"With Intel controllers, when you set it to RAID, single drives are running AHCI automatically" ...my immediate take was that was RIGHT.

And, I did good aligning and cloning......total, only 98 GBs.

Drive is very fast, but as I keep saying, the WD Black (now, my backup drive) is too.... as fast as this? NO......obviously, discernible difference, just not sure if I really needed it. My BF thinks it's very fast. but, he likes that BOSE thingy I found, and only gets macs, so wut does he know?:sneaky:

But, just what I hadda go thru for a hour (maybe more)... to figure out how to alter the 2 caddys to do the (unconventional) installation ( I don do Velcro)....it's stayin.

Hot knives and ice pik....eyes by Marcel Proust. Ad hoc. Was unexpected and annoying.

Also remember and, I was told this here, so, knew it going in, the M500s not quite as fast as the model which is replacing it. I do not care.

I still wanna know how much this puppy costs Micron to make in China. I mean it.

Very telling, off and on, I've been delving and can find NOT ONE item addressing a Mfg's cost of making SSDs!

I WANNA KNOW.

K......I am now fully open, and this drive really is very very fast. I was in self protective cynicism mode, and what I unexpectedly hadda go thru just to install the wee thing was sickening, and I blamed not only Crucial, but also the drive.

Not rational, but human.

I am increasingly, FINALLY happy I did this.

Ahah. I finally found something helpful from 2011. Yes indeed, the principals R being closed mouthed cause some malfeasance goin on here.....but the info in this was at least helpful.

And, U bet, while here, in this esoteric community, the percentage of members who have SSDs is huge....in the real world, it is anything but, still.

Late addendum:

I just did my first clone to my WD Black now backup drive from this wee Crucial SSD. Esp, given it is hotfix Tuesday.

I must say, whole thing took under 14 mins. I think it used to take like half an hour when I had two mechanical drives.

14 second boot time now (not bad for SATA2 controllers) is cute, but I care little about that. But, I am increasingly happy I got the wee drive.
