Yeah, I found Tom's before Anand's. I personally prefer reading Anand's because his aren't sided against Rambus and Intel like tom's usually are. I still go there once in a while, and read his stuff. But personally I like Anandtech better.

I started off reading THG way way way back when it first started. Herr Pabst has provided a lot of useful info over the years (and most hardware sites owe him a lot for starting the hardware site community)... However, after a few weeks of reading his writing it became quite clear that the guy has an Ego the size of Texas, is an obnoxious jerk, and that his information can be very clouded with whatever his personal slant on something is.

I started reading AT when Anand started it on Geocities and never looked back.......

I also agree that the site is a pain in the ass to navigate. I havent been there since I checked the slota athlon unlocking guide. A while back.

I started reading Tom's back when I built a K6 200 system. I had a Soyo board at the time, and I had some sort of issue with it and contacted Soyos online support. The Soyo guy that replied pointed me to Tom's site and also hinted my board had a 75 MHz bus, and that I could find out how to use it at Tom's. Anyone remember Tom's lists with different mobos and what the jumpersettings were to get a 75 or even *gasp* 83 MHz FSB to work?(Hey, at that time it wasn't even called Front Side Bus, just system bus or bus )

Then came the debacle with a community veteran called Harvey (I think it was Harvey - he might even still be lurking around this board) and Tom's view of American culture and what airplane service was the best (hehe, yes, there was a big argument over this). After that I quit going to Tom's.

And, yes, Tom's BBS really really suck.

I first bookmarked Tom's site on June 10th, 1997 (have all my bookmarks backed up - carry them over to various upgrades). Probably started reading it a few months prior.

Tom's site brought me to Anandtech back then.

Yes, the old pin 21 trick on slot 1. Got that from Tom's.

It seems to me there's more "meat" at Tom's site than there is at other sites, including Anandtech. There are more articles of interest (to me, at least) at his site than any other site I've visited. Content is what matters to me; I don't care to read pretty fluff.

Bias? He's got his leanings, but they are justified. He's dared to make a stand on many issues and been later proven correct.

So what am I doing here? Tom's forums suck I let him know when he reformatted his forums that I thought the layout was unworkable.

Tom's was the first hardare site I visited regularly. I don't read many of his articles anymore, but his news blurbs hit things many other sites miss. I agree about his site layout. It seems too cluttered. It is still a good reference when you need to research something.

Yup, I used to. I was also a big Sharky Extreme reader too, but I never visit either of them anymore.

I dont visit his site anymore. When compared to Anandtech Tom's site just doesnt measure up. Anand's articles are works of true perfessional journalism and very few sites live up to that kind of standard it seems.

I don't trust him, but I do trust this site.

I go to ZDNET to get all my resource first before I go to Tom's or Anand's. We all know that ZDNET has all the reliable resources and great informative infomation. ZDNET is the best and should not be overlooked.

Thanks

yes, and I still drop by on a regular basis. The layout is a bit awkward but for me it's worth it.

I did untill I recently, a few weeks ago, started reading anandtech. I used to check tom's hardware and some other tech sites daily but ever since anand I have not. Partly because I have had to look for new computer parts, but unless tom has a review of a new product up, theres not much point to going there more than every other day or so.

I'm a recent "convert". AT is better for its community, not necessarily its reviews, content, etc.

Anand hit on a good mix.

I still like TH though. He seems to get the scoop on Anand on alot of things. Afterwhich I just wait for AT to fill in the gaps or provide a counterweight for TH.

I started out with Tom's Hardware also. I check both there and Anandtech every day for new articles and I read anything new, but I think I perfer Anandtech overall because of the price guides and the community here is much better. The product reviews are very similar, but it is good to get two independent view points on new products.

Tom is great, but the site is so ugly and hard to navigate I don't go there much unless I know there is something of interest beforehand.

I Can't stand how you call him bias. Sure, he voices his opinion strongly, but what is wrong with that? I think you guys cant handle that he is right. He pretty much bitch slapped Intel and everyone got mad, but guess what? He was right, he deserves to gloat a bit. I love Tom's articles. I love a little juicy writing once and a while.
