The bulletproof Apple LaserWriter 630. (It's just a repackaged HP LJ 4, IIRC.) And it works fine on my Windows-only network.

yeap i have a Samsung ML-4500. got 4500 pages on the free toner cartridge. I just had to put in a new one about a month ago.

I have thought about upgrading to a new one that does full duplex. but then again this one works great so i doubt i will.


We print out a bunch. Both of us are going to college so we need a good black and white printer. its well worth the money.

I just got the HP 1012, and its a great little printer. I was going to get the 1300, but was persuaded otherwise by my mother (this printer is for college), and couldnt be happier. Prints first page almost instantly, and is very fast.

I don't have one at home, but my friend's business has had several Samsung ML-1710s, and an HP LaserJet 1300. The Samsung ML-1710s are nice, but we've had two of them go bad in fairly short periods of heavy volume usage. One of them died on the 3rd toner cartridge, one lasted until the 5th or 6th. The HP has put out more pages than all of the Samsungs combined (3 systems with Samsungs, 5 Samsung printers counting the two that have been replaced), and it's still going strong.

Me too - mine's been running like a champ since '92. It will probably last forever.

My parents just bought a Brother MFC-8420 this summer. It works great - prints, copies, scans and faxes and I have yet to see a problem. When they move into their new house this summer, I'm planning on buying them the network adapter for the printer. That will be sweet - network scanning, copying, faxing and not to mention printing - anywhere from the house. They got the printer from Dell for about $340 after rebates - not too shabby when list is about $699.

The new model is the MFC-8440 - ups the ppm from 17 to 21 - not significant, but its the replacement for sale on Dell. Sometimes they run the $35 of $400 deals + free shipping, that can bring the printer down to $320 if you live in a state without tax. Definitely worth picking up if you are interested in a flatbed/sheetfed MFC.
