POLL: Do you believe in life after death?

Do you believe? I do. I believe in God but I will be very honest and say I get sad sometimes because I'm not 100% sure if I'll get to see my family again after I pass. I would love for a sign to appear but I know that I need to keep the faith as opposed to try and look for something that'll tell me or show me whether or not it'll happen.

Do I believe? No... do I hope and pray there is? Yes.
This is my struggle in life. I want to believe (or know!) with my heart and soul there is an afterlife. But I struggle with it. I don't want the end to be "the end" otherwise, what was the point? I want to see my friends, family and loved ones again but my faith is just not there (yet).

Wow, I am surprised at how many believe in LAD. That is a good thing though. I would love to hear your reasons via PMs if you don't want to share it here due to fear of turning this into a religion debate (any reason besides faith)?

When you are dead you won't care about your family. You either will be dead with no consciousness or you will worshipping God with no time for your family. To think an afterlife is just like being on Earth is wishful thinking.

Life after death? That's kind of a contradiction in terms, dontcha think? So, no.

I gave you the benefit of the doubt that you meant existence though, and voted 50/50. On that, I cannot and will not speculate. Hell, even later Star Trek episodes hypothesized on the idea of "neural energy" surviving after death. Sounds like nonsense, but reality is little more than a shared hallucination, so who the hell knows? Maybe it is a dream and we "wake up." Or maybe we switch off like TV's. We will all discover the truth eventually, so I won't waste much time worrying about it between now and then.

Some Voyager episodes were just a wee bit kooky. Methinks the writers were either getting lazy or running out of ideas.

Well that's obvious. The problem is defining DEAD beyond just the cessation of body functions. A computer can be turned on and off repeatedly. So can a car or any other machine we have made. Not so an animal or a human being. Why not? Therein lies the answer IMO. If we could "turn off" a person for a few days and then turn them back on again, I think we could go a lot further towards understanding what this death thing really is.
