Hell, even later Star Trek episodes hypothesized on the idea of "neural energy" surviving after death. Sounds like nonsense, but reality is little more than a shared hallucination, so who the hell knows? Maybe it is a dream and we "wake up." Or maybe we switch off like TV's. We will all discover the truth eventually, so I won't waste much time worrying about it between now and then.
