POLL: Do you believe in one true religion? Or do you believe that any religion (within reason) is acceptable to God?

So do you believe that all religions are acceptable to God or is their only one religion that he approves of?

Personally I find it hard to believe that there is only one true religion, if you look closely enough its not difficult to find out that most religions are flawed in one way or another. But yet in many cases members of a particular religion will give you multiple reasons why they are the chosen one and the others are false. Its like a game between children about who's daddy's favorite when he's away. But despite all the bickering there is no evidence that God favors one religion over another.

Its that line of thinking that eventually motivated me to step back from this choosing a religion game. These days I prefer to observe and try to learn what I can from studying on my own instead of being guided by a particular group or organization. This is not to put down anyone else but its just my own personal choice. But enough about me what's your take on it:

The real question is:
Why do you start a thread that will 100% surely turn into a blazing flamefest?

Yes, God only favors one religion. Unfortunately, by a quirk of fate, mankind will never discover that religion.

The dolphins are on the right track though.

I'm sure there other people besides myself who have questions about God and religion and would like to discuss them. Its not about starting a flamefest its just wanting to discuss certain issues.

Yes, and an athiest-filled computer forum is the perfect place to ask.

I don't understand the backlash on religion threads, I mean if you don't like to talk about cars then why jump into a thread about it. Same applies here.

Does God fart? And if so, is it perfect? My puny little mortal mind couldn't even fathom the perfect fart.

It is not atheists who get stuck in my craw, but agnostics. Doubt is useful for a while. We must all pass through the garden of Gethsemane. If Christ played with doubt, so must we. If Christ spent an anguished night in prayer, if He burst out from the Cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" then surely we are also permitted doubt. But we must move on. To choose doubt as a philosophy of life is akin to choosing immobility as a means of transportation.

I'd wager that the majority on this forum believe in god.

It's just that the minority atheists are loudmouths.

That might be the most retarded thing I've ever read.

You have a great point. However, KNOWING what is going to happen, why bother posting here about religion anyway? The thread is just going to get FUBAR and you know it.

If you have some serious questions, call your local churches. Talk to someone who actually knows WTF they're talking about.

By the way, there's a toll free number to Archangel Michael who handles God's customer support. It's 1-800-GODFAQS.

LOL jjones...

I believe that man has a need for a God or god to attribute all things which he cannot comprehend with his feeble mind. It's just so nice to categorize and organize things incomprehensible under "God". Isn't it our nature to categorize everything in our mind so we know where to find it when we need it? I digress.

I believe not only in my religion (I'm a semi-practicing Catholic) but I also accept certain tenets from other religions. I'm of the persuasion that if there is a God or god that it/he/she is a unifying force if you will. That is, there are many different interpretations of one being. There are many differences between many religions but I find there are more similarities.

There is undoubtedly something to learn from everyone and every stance which is why it is folly to dismiss any of them. You could even take the pragmatist's view and say, "I'm going to believe in religion X *just in case* it happens to be true". I think most religions and persuasions of a certain G/god inherently profess and teach a way of life that is conducive to peace and well-being. If one finds a path or template that enables him/her to live an amazing life and be an amazing person, why not follow it? These are all just random blabbles. Spirituality is something you either have in you or you don't - it can't be taught and those who would look down on it are denying others the freedom of choice which they are so proud of.
