Isn't this beyond obvious? Game devs can't afford to make games just for 4090 and 4080 owners.
They need to make games that also support ray-tracing whenever possible. Once started playing with ray-tracing, there's no going back. This visuals just look plain bad without RT.

Interesting take from a game dev on ray tracing and its adoption rate (why its been slow), from MLID interview of Alderon games dev, link should go to correct section:

TLDR: from 2h8min, "It needs to be a five year old gpu that can run ray tracing decently and then games are going get adoption."

You mean the consoles... and yet things are going backwards.

Like Jedi Survivor is getting a downgraded PS4/XBO port. I believe the changes they make will be made available on PC too.

Edit: The game is not supported on the Deck because it's not playable. Maybe the downgraded version will run well enough.

What this developer is saying at one point is, RT has certain costs and depending on the game is a net negative. He mentions for his game that RT wasn't too interesting for their game because they couldn't get it to work with their weather effects like time of day and wind. It just slowed down the game too much.

Ray Tracing 7900XTX vs 3090
RDNA4 should be fine vs 4xxx series and maybe vs 5xxx

Why upscaling matters for games:

When you take a picture of a person, if AI introduces an extra finger then that's bad

otoh, in a game all that matters is are the fingers, sharp, realistic etc.? How many fingers doesn't matter here

on RT:
  1. Reflections hurt my eyes. I prefer matte finish everywhere
  2. Soft Lumen is the way forward. Path tracing / hard RT is unnecessary (just like 64x tessellation)
  3. Shadows play an important role in many games. Example war of tanks, a DX11 game had to use Intel embree to show the shadows of the turret. (I believe the RT was better on a threadripper in this case)
  4. An extension of shadow concept is Surround Sound, where you can attack enemies without seeing them
  5. Another case for RT future is, it simplifies development (as long as you don't have a non-RT branch or optimizations for low VRAM cards)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh wow.

You've been playing games, watching movies, listening to music, that has entirely, for literal decades, been fake.
Your games were pixellated or rasterized. Raster is a false imitation of reality. Devs manually tuned the look, feel, style of every game you've ever played. It was all subjective and fake.
Your movies were sampled, had their colour retouched, had their photography artificially tuned and their editing arranged. Even the actors don't act like they want to mimic real conversations.
Your musics were sampled and limited into 0s and 1s within data size constraints.
Even when you're on the phone talking to someone, it's not their voice, it's a shrunken imitation of the person you're talking to, with your brain doing mostly imaginary work for completion.
You have 4000+ messages on a hardware forum. And you go "oh wow, you desire all artificial and contrived surroundings. Implies reality is not nice. I'd hate to be living where you are now.".

No, no.
I merely have enough intelligence to realise that it was all fake. It always was fake. Most of what we've been doing since the 80s is growing machines into making more convincing fakes.

I recently watched Le Samouraï, an old 60s movie. It was a profoundly interesting movie, but the horrible grain on my entirely legally and respectfully stolen torrent was just bad.
I have taken a picture of the Moon, and it looked like a bland white disc because the lens is not capable of accurately capturing the details of the full Moon due to extreme brightness contrast.
I have been hesitating between recording with CQP 20 or CQP 30, since 20 gives me barely better visual detail and costs twice the HDD space, but colours pop out that much more than 30.

I wish Le Samouraï had no grain.
I wish my Moon, the one I saw with my own eyes, was pictured the way it looked to me.
I wish I could have CQP 1 and still have enough HDD space to just not care.

It was always fake. It's just a question of how well the fakeness is built. Looking down on people for wanting credible AI fakeness instead of your old classic fakeness is not a sign of loving reality, it's just showing that all your life, you haven't been able to understand that you were looking at fake things yourself. But I have. So I'll have the AI Moon, I'll have the AI details, I'll have whatever it is that makes it look more like what I want it to look like.

Probably paid by Nvidia to stick to the older version.

There would be wailing and gnashing of teeth if it were AMD. Pal world never did add other upscalers officially besides DLSS did they? We all know why there was no uprising over it. Yet we had 27 pages about DLSS not being included in AMD sponsored games, started by a now permabanned troll/paid shill.

Was it Daniel-San showing how DLSS was so much better in 2077 by focusing on some vents and stuff, while a NPC walking by below, ghosted so hard it was smeared? Laughable if it was not so obvious why he ignored it. I concluded AMD can never break the monopoly regardless of price and performance.

I was just watching Pedro test the 7900XTX AMD sent him, as he has been added to their review sampling of products. What does he test? Nvidia's number one tech demo of course. 🤣Proceeds to do the typical all or nothing ray tracing and path tracing. That's 100% to keep Nvidia happy. If he starts showing you optimized settings where you can get good performance while not being able to tell the difference in RT without serious pixel peeping? It undermines the talking point about how bad AMD is at RTX erm..RT.

It is going to be must watch/read when FSR 4 hits. We'll see how fair and equitable all of the reviewers are. Also, anticipating message boards and comment sections will be overrun with whatever the anti AMD talking points are for it.

To end this diatribe: Congrats to Nvidia for winning the GPU wars that started in the 90s. They are the Apple of GPUs now. Cult like following and all the monies.

Claiming it's just a cult like following, is just a failure to understand either market.

Apple stuff just works together pretty seamlessly, they sweat the details on industrial engineering on top as well. They also design their own great SoCs, and the whole software stack to work well, etc....

NVidia puts way more R&D into features, and while they may not matter to you, that helps them sell cards.

For AI upscaling, AMD is even behind Intel, who just started making discrete GPUs...

Ray Tracing, well, it still looks sweet, but seeing how much power it needs to run semi-decent, i think this is technology for 10+ years from now, if not more.
Upscaling, i've seen some gorgeous upscaling of old videos, but it's not really tech that needs to be in *my* PC, more of a business-type thing. I'd expect to get it in a RTX8000 -kinda stuff.

Hardware Labs testing games from 2019 through present on 6700XT. I think she is spot on with most of her observations and conclusions.

I'm having a damn hard time finding the video, but when i say Ray Tracing i mean the really, REALLY early tech demos where RT handles *all* the graphics.
RT can potentially create undistinguishable-from-life images, and that's a tech i would gladly get behind, but it wasn't feasible around 2007-ish, maybe in 2035 we can get something playable.
