<< Isn't the Trooper the SUV most likely to roll over? >>

Propaganda initiated by Consumer Reports. I researched it. Isuzu sued Consumer Reports (back in the early 90's) and WON. Any SUV is more likely than a car to roll over during extreme manuevering. I haven't had the truck for that long, but I can tell you that I've gone around some pretty fast corners at the same speeds I did in my Accord in the truck felt rock stable.

I wouldn't go around a skidpad to find max lateral G's or anything like that, but the truck feels solid to me, and I'm no new driver. Been driving 17 years. Many different cars and trucks.

<< I will not own an American vehicle. I will only drive a Japanese or German vehicle. (Well, if I could AFFORD a German vehicle ) My current ride is an Isuzu Trooper made in Japan. My last car was a Honda Accord, which is made in Tenessee, but is Japanese thru and thru (higher QC standards). Compare a Japanese vehicle THAT'S MADE HERE, IN THE USA with an American vehicle (obviously made here in the USA) and the difference in quality control is very obvious. That and the quality of materials used is very different as well.

I'm not anti-American. On the contrary, I'm very patriotic (if you only knew....) anyway, I believe in spending my money wisely. Buying an American car is not wise. Truck...well, maybe, but car? Heck no.

1988 Honda Accord LX-i. I'm pretty sure that it was built in Japan because I don't think Honda had opened up the Marrysville Ohio plant at that time. My other (read occasionally running) car is a 1976 VW-Porsche 914. It my have more than its fair share of problems, but I think it says something for German engineering when the 914 can run smoothly and (sort of) reliably on two cylinders. Damn 25 year old FI wiring. That little VW flat 4 will even idle on only one cylinder (artificially induced by pulling plug wires to see which cylinders were not firing)!

<< I drive a Honda Civic. Call me a lemming all you want, but they are a rarer sight on UK roads than most cars. >>

That's fine. I'll never call someone a lemming for driving a car that has become popular over a period of many years by building a great reputation through consistently building a high quality product.

It is too bad, Migroo, that you are getting screwed for mileage by your 1.4 L engine. My 92 1.5 L Civic gets between 26-42 MPG, depending how I'm using it. My sister's US model 2001 HX coupe with the 1.7 L lean burn VTEC-E just got around 55 MPG on a tankfull of mostly highway. She was super happy about that.

Her car was built in the US, too.

Zen, yes they were building Accords in OH in 88. Some were imported. Check your VIN. If it starts with 1, it was built in the US, if it starts with J, it was built in Japan.

This applies to every car sold in the US:

1 or 4 = US
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico
J = Japan
W = Germany
K = Korea
Z = Italy
S = England

EDIT: More info here.

Thats right Garfang. I realised that my bad MPG (about 26, 30 if I am lucky) is due to my heavy (slightly) right foot, and the fact that all my driving is in urban areas.
Also, due to the style of engine, all the torque is at higher revs, so I, like most young men, like to get somewhere quickly. translation - 5000+ rpm is not rare..

No ricers in our garage..
1989 Chevy Camaro
1999 Ford Explorer
1987 Ford Mustang (Mine)

Way too many "wimpy" Asia cars for me, I'll take a powerful-looking American car any day. British cars look nice new, but their lasting condition is less than good. German cars are great, paying for them is the hard part.

My Nissan Altima was manufactured in the USA, whereas my Mom's Chevy Suburban (can you get more American?) was manufactured in Mexico. Go figure...

LOL, one American car, and one foreign car. Which one's which?

<< I drive a Volkswagon Jetta 2001, I believe that is from Europe >>

All three of our current buggies are "American". Not to help the economy or "save our unions", but because they have the platform I prefer. RWD, 4dr, body on frame V8. Not too many Asian machines fit the bill and European is not enough bang for the buck, especially when repairs are required. Never owned a new vehicle. That's why my purchases don't help the economy. Damn, been buying old American iron for quite a while:
  • '66 Belair 4dr
  • '66 GTO
  • '66 Catalina 4dr
  • '67 Impala 2dr
  • '68 Camaro RS
  • '70 Impala 4dr
  • '77 Bonneville 4dr
  • '78 Grand Marquis 4dr
  • '77 Town Car 4dr (still rolling)
  • '78 Town Car 4dr
  • '77 Grand Marquis 4dr
  • '88 E-150 Conversion Van (still rolling)
  • '95 Grand marquis (New aquisition for son's 16th B-day)
Hmmm, I'm seeing a pattern there!

Corrections are necessary.

1. Consumer Reports did not lose. The jury in LA denied Isuzus claim for damages and said CU did not libel them. The CU request for Isuzu to pay their legal expenses is still outstanding. Your "research" is wrong.

2. CR does not initiate propaganda. It is the most respected, unbiased magazine of its type in the world.

People who roll SUV's or any vehicle for that matter are derelict's either way, I think I had read the Montero was the easiest roller at 27mph on a sharp turn, Jeezus who is going to go down broadway and miss the mall and have to turn around that fast, take it easy.

Hey bob970, all those 'good' cars and trucks are built in Canada! Detroit bailed on the RWD to build wimpy Japanese FWD clones. I blame the American consumer and greenies though :frown:
