a dog is a must in any house I will live in. I absolutely am a sucker for a good loyal and obedient dog, as they truly are an amazing creature giving the right upbringing.

Love 'em. Wanted to get a squirrel and set it loose in my room, just let it warm up to me I guess. Then when it learned it could trust me and everything, let it outside and mostly hope it came back.

Im really sad though. My 16 year old wiener dog is coming to the end. Best friend ive ever had.

See, I have never met a guy who doesn't like animals. Chicks who don't like pets, yes... they don't like the mess. But all the guys I have known like animals.... whether it's cats, dogs. or tarantulas... guys dig pets.

If you are a guy and you don't like pets... tell me why!

i wasnt going to answer this poll because it didnt have an answer fo me. i think you should have been more specific. then i read the OP and saw that it was about pets IN THE HOUSE.

NO. I am very adamant about any filthy animals in the house other than a fish tank, for instance. I dont like them in the house because they shed their fur and dander and it bothers people with alergies. There are always "accidents" all over the house in peoples homes that do have them, spots all over the carpet. The overall house smell is terrible. It's not a valid comparison to compare them to kids. Kids are human, and your own offspring. thats quite a bit different than some random animal that will never clean up after itself. at least when kids get older they'll be cleanly (not counting messes of toys and things).

Speaking of kids, it's bad for them. All that animal dander and hair they breath in all the time. Especially when theyre babies. I would never force my kids in anything that dirty 24/7. Cats get up on the firnature, and in any food accessible. the hair floats around the house and lands in anything youre cooking. so filthy. and you cant train a cat. they get up on the counter and you try spraying them. they just learn to not do it around you. you HIT them when they get up there, all they learn is to run away from you. terrible animals. not to mention kids that are born with alergies to them.

I'm more than happy to have outdoor animals. I love gods outdoors, they always seem way happier. Cats too. I hate cats indoors to the point that when i see them i want to kick them, theyre the worst inside animal. man they smell bad. But an outdoor cat, theyre really nice. they even hunt for you. So yeah, pets=outside.

edit: (guy)

Fair enough! I have never known a guy that concerned about cleanliness. So I guess if you are very bothered by microbes, animals inside would bother you.

By the way, it does help children to be exposed to some dirt etc. Natural immunity is built up that way.

Also, I never had cats indoors until a year ago. Our outdoor cat was HBC (hit by car in vet speak) and my kids were heartbroken. So, even though I am not a fan of litter boxes and cats on the counters, I agreed to let my kids have indoor kitties. I just have to make them help me clean the house more often and more thoroughly.

By the way, I want to thank those who have explained why they don't like pets. You have shed some light on the subject for me! I can't say that I can relate to your reasons, but I respect them.

It seems that there are pet lovers and pet strongly dislikers, with very few in betweens.

Very interesting!

Me? Pets?? I just got home late last night after a 2 day trip to pick up a cute little goat. None of the goats are in the house, but 2 of the dogs are, plus a cat and a ferret. I don't trust the ferret to use a litter box, so she stays in her cage most of the time. I've been considering allowing 2 of the rabbits to live in the house, especially during the winter, confined to the sun room and soon to be new family room.

edit: I'd allow 3 of the rabbits to be inside, but two of the girls might fight. Can't have that!

I like pets, but got tired of cats. Now I have 2 guinea pigs who are great, they don't produce a ton of poo and only need a cage cleaning every 3 days or so, and they're a lot of fun.

Now, I have met women who don't like animals. This is the first guy I have met who has pet issues. Personally, I think he's a freak. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe other guys dont want pets in their homes, either.

Tell me, do you like pets, and what is your sex/gender?

I can't stand an animal in the house. I told my girl that she can have whatever pets she wants, so long as I don't have to deal with them and they don't come in the house.

What I can't fn stand are the people that have animals and they bring them over to someones house who NEVER EVER IN THEIR LIFE had animals, just to let them run around the house. WTF?

What I find hilarious is people who have NEVER EVER IN THEIR LIFE had animals who stop by for a visit. We had a bunch of little girls ask if they could see our animals last week. They were terrified. Tobolo, are you afraid of animals too?? Are your kids going to grow up like those girls (who grew up in the city, and had never had a pet before.) Our most affectionate goat is the first to approach little kids. Til these girls came by, every single kid who has visited quickly became attached to the goat and wanted to take her home. We see these kids out in the grocery store and other places, they ask about the goat by first name - "How's Lizzy doing?" But, these girls from the city ran away screaming. We've allowed 3 year olds to go in and play with the goats and female llamas (supervised.) These terrified girls were about 10 years old.

Picture the scene in Monty Python when they first encountered the killer rabbit. "It's just a cute little bunny rabbit." That's what most people would think. Then, when they get to the part where they're screaming "Run away! Run away!" that was like the girls immediate reaction. In fact, they were afraid to come within 5 or 6 feet of the rabbits that ARE in a cage!

I don't know if it's some sort of twisted Karma for my post in this thread, but feelings about pets in the house were further concreted last night.

About 4:00AM I wake up hearing my dog making the most feared noise she can make...it's sort of like when you smack your lips. It's the sound she makes either right before or right after she's ready to blow chow.

So I race out of bed she makes a dart downstairs and heads for the door. She runs outside and starts chowing down on every clump of dirt and grass she can find.

I go back in and look around. By some grace of God I managed to avoid two huge puke piles on the stair landing and right at the base of the stairs. There was another two piles in other parts of the house. She managed to eat almost every leaf off of a 5 year old devils ivy and then proceded to puke it up all over the house.

This has happened about once every 3 months or so. And it's always at like 4 in the morning. When it happens you just have to leave her outside for an hour or so until she eats enough crap and pukes it up enough that it settles her stomach. Amazingly fun times!

No more plants are allowed in the house. She's ate the dirt out of the pots or ate the plants themselves every time.

My wife can't understand why I'm not happy when I wake up to this at 4:00AM.

I have a dichotomy of tolerence that I'm willing to deal with. Crap like this from pets falls a couple pegs below having to deal with it from children.

male and i have many pets. 2 dogs (12 yr old black lab and a 4 yr old choco lab/ dane mix), a pearl cockatiel, a 4 foot iguana and a billion fishies. used to have a really cool fancy blue rat but he died of old age last year. cant seem to find another that is as cool as him so havent replaced him yet. my 3 kids love the aminals, and take pretty good care of them. they were afriad of the lizard for a while, it bit their mom and drew blood. he has never tried to bite me or the kids tho, i think it was just her... after she moved out he mellowed and became much friendlier =P

i like my fish
i have 4 aquariums

i don't keep animals at my house that can p00p on my carpet or my yard

we have had a couple guinea pigs and had a bird for a while
these animals stay in their cages so they don't p00p all over the place

my wife is allergic to cat hair, so we can't have a cat
if she wasn't allergic and we got a cat that didn't p00p all over the house, that might be ok
but she is allergic, so no cats

dogs p00p all over the place, so we don't have a dog. you can't keep a dog in a cage. but dogs are like cattle, they p00p where ever they are when they need to go and you end up with dog p00p all over your property

Pets that remain primarily in cages, yes.

Dogs/Cats, no way. Not that I dislike them, but I can't deal with hairs getting on everything.

I'm a male and I LOVE animals, but have no pets. I'm allergic to the majority of cats and dogs, I don't care for the messes they make, and I'm not home enough to give them the attention they deserve.
