Sorry, but I have absolutely no respect for lawyers, politicians, the judicial system, etc., in any way whatsoever. I haven't been to court and I don't plan to go to court. I just live my life with one sense - "common sense". Seems to have kept me out of trouble for many years now.

Our government should be about geniocracy.

(seriously).

You're kidding, right? You're telling me you didn't get drunk and screw random chicks while in college? That's what it is all about!!

No, I'm not kidding. Oh, and I had a blast in college.

Ok, that's cool - but you did at least have some drops of poontang?

I was with one woman during my 5 1/2 years of school (quit for a year and lost a semester of hours because the courses changed while I had quit). I am still with that same wonderful woman today as we've been married 15 years (16 in April). And today, I'm still having a blast with her just as I did in college.

Wow - when my kid goes to college I am going to specifically tell her/him NOT to have a steady boyfriend/girlfriend ... We weren't genetically engineered to have sex with the same person our entire lives.

Your kid is going to do what they want regardless of what you say. Chances are, they will be with several people (or more) during college. I may be an exception to the rule, but I love (loved too) every minute of it. To each is own!

Didn't take you long to come up with that one.

That is true -- and I want them to do what they want to do, and not give in to today's conformity (religion/laws/etc)

Accountants? Do we really need them now that we have TurboTax?

No, but if you had a degree, it probably would have only taken a year or two to get the job you have instead of a decade.

There's more to Accounting than 1040's

And with the piece of paper that says you are a PE, people will know and come to trust the service you can provide them rather than just hearsay and you promising that your work is good "just because you have lots of experience".

Get that piece of paper and people will do business with you with confidence.

Gotta love this thread. My roommate's in ECET and is always arguing with AgaBoogaBoo and me about ECE vs ECET.

AFAIK there are no engineering licensure qualifications, making it a general descriptor of a generalized field of work, not a profession. Therefore, there is no such thing as a "real" engineer. Any engineers making the claim have over-inflated images of themselves.

Your friends are "engineering snobs," not "real engineers."

This is the credited response.

I hope this was a joke.

If not, use a few seconds of thought and think of all the certified engineers with a PE that designed something that failed disastrously.

OR, recall this joke:

Q: What do you call the med student who graduated dead last in his class from the worst med school in the nation?

A: Doctor.

Technically speaking you arent a real engineer unless you are a licensed engineer in your state. That typically requires a masters degree and passing a battery of tests.

Check again, almost every state has a professional license for engineering. More so for civil engineering.

Its cool, our opinions are different. I can accept that.

But the next time you need medical advice, will you go seek Dr. Nick Riviera instead of Dr. Hibbert?

You do realize most lawyers never step foot into an actual courtroom. And even trial lawyers actually spend 90% of their time outside of the court room. Every contract you have ever signed has been written by a lawyer.

OP: most likely not. Hell, I'm running experiments for a new part we are going to use to see what it does to our processes. I have to design recipes for these new parts and I'm only a technician.

IT DEPENDS WHERE YOU LIVE.

In america you can call yourself an engineer, like those Microsoft people do. But in Canada for example I'm told they have to remove the engineer from their name, though they can keep the acronym's E.

It does not mean "nothing". I've had interviews where the first thing they ask you is, do you have an engineering degree from an ABET accredited insitution. If you don't, they won't talk to you any further.

You guys can rip school all you want, i don't care for it much either. But face it, the world largely works off of credentials. It's illegal to represent yourself as a lawyer, no matter how involved you are in the legal system, without a law degree. Same for medical, nurses and PAs, who now do alot of the work docs once did, but they are not real docs, even despite all the sh*tty malpractice and incompetent real docs in the world.
