I've yet to see an advantage of smoking which weighs up to, and isn't linked in any way to, the disadvantages of smoking.

Smoking is actually one of the most useless activities you can imagine.

BTW is it just me or is whether you smoke or not in some way linked to the level of education you've had?

I don't, and I won't. Period. And if you come to my house and you ARE a smoker, you're an outside-with-the-door-closed smoker, although I'd prefer it if you were a not-at-my-house smoker. Dem's da rules.

Gave up the damn stick 6 months back. Cant figure out why the heck I was at it for the past 7 years. Anyways got rid of the damn habit...and never had a relapse till now...maybe its too early to conclude I guess. Anyways i am hoping for the best.

I am not going to rant on and on about the habit cause everyone knows what it is anyways.

All I can say is the earlier the better and hopefully everyone sees the light!!!

Btw....I have about 10 Nicorette CQ patches that are unused (This is the step2 patches...so i think its like 7mg of nicotine, not sure though) ...I just used 4 of them when I started the quitting process. So in case anyone is in the process of quitting and need these...just send in your mailing address and I would be more than happy to let ya have it.

Yup, love it, never tried to quit... Agree very bad for health, but I have an addictive personality...smoking, drinking, upgrading....

*sigh* my mom began smoking when she was 17 (my dad [at that time, her bf] influenced her to smoke). when my dad quit smoking about 15 years ago, my mom continued.

i've *grown* to dislike cigarette smoke and the act of smoking itself! :disgust:

quit about a year and a half ago after 11 years of 1-2 packs a day

still have an occassional cigarette (1 every two weeks or so) and when i go to a bar or casino... all bets are off (last time I went to the riverboat - almost three packs in 24 hrs)

I've actually gotten quite used to the withdrawal now... hardly even notice it

I think the secret to quitting for me was just a realization that withdrawal is supposed to suck so I went cold turkey and it took about a month to stop thinking about them daily.

It's a nasty habit once you actually need them just to feel normal (the occassional buzz is now kinda fun)

Good luck to all the quitters & wannabes... I feel for ya.

Still smoke. (Down to two packs/day)

Guess I should take down my college diploma hanging in my office so I don't screw up this theory!

I used to smoke and then one day a few years ago I got sick of it and threw them away. Never had one again. Now I can't stand the smell of smoke.

The image of that dark lung (with a piece of cancer on it) I saw when I was in grade 9 always pops up in my mind when I see ppl smoking...

Yes, I smoke (Kool Super Long 100's) over a pack a day and have no plans of quitting. Me, my brothers, and my uncle were all outside smoking during my fathers wake, who died at 52 of cancer from smoking.

I also saw someone say they don't want to be like that lady with the hole in her throat...Does anyone REALLY feel sorry for her? I sure don't. ALL smokers know exactly what this habit does to our bodies but IT'S OUR CHOICE! What I can't stand are the money hungry bums that want to turn around and sue the tobacco companies when they get cancer or a family member dies from smoking. Give me a break! If I get cancer and die, I have no one to blame but myself.

As for those of you that are quick to jump on us smokers, I guess it's okay for you to go out, get drunk, wreck your cars and possibly kill someone. What do you think the alcohol is doing to your bodies? Is it any less deadly than smoking? Are you any less of a slave to your habit? I don't drink and can't understand why YOU would want to have THAT smell on you, and how can you stand the taste. But once again, IT'S YOUR CHOICE.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone with this statement. I assure you that it wasn't my intention to do so.

I was referring to the fact that at my school, nearly everyone who smokes is following MAVO, which is the lowest education you can get at this school. From what I've seen at other schools that provide even lower education ((I)VBO, MBO/LBO) I know that more than 60% of those (mostly guys) students there smoke.

This is a huge difference when compared to the fact that only a few who are following higher education (HAVO, VWO) actually smoke.

Again, no offence intended, but it is just something which is quite remarkable. I should have explained more clearly in my earlier post.
