I truly enjoy a good cigar. My brand of choice is Baccarat. I would not say that it is the best, but the flavor mingles nicely with Coca-cola, steak and gourmet coffee. I probably smoke one cigar a week, generally as an after supper treat.
Once or twice a week I smoke a pipe. Thompson Magic Flute is a recent favorite.

I have yet to see a resonably intelligent person who smokes (tobacco) on a regular basis.
Now there's an assinine statement if I ever saw one.
I guess by your reasoning that as soon as you put a ciggarette to your mouth your IQ goes down ?
Now don't get me wrong, I am not condoning smoking
I thinks he is saying that if someone was smart they wouldn't be smoking in the first place.
But it's been LONG known that IQ and common sense are mutually exclusive. How else would you explain so many genuises who end up dead from drug addictions, suicide, or alcoholism?
I'm not much of a touring rider besides the occasional charity ride (MS 150 and such) or century rides. Mostly I do informal group rides and amateur USCF racing on the weekends. You may be surprised at what your son can handle mileage-wise. I was amazed at the age of some of the riders when I did the Seattle-to-Portland ride a few years back. One option to consider would be to get a tandem (there are kits that allow younger riders to ride on the back of an adult-sized tandem.....this guy has quite the setup) or you could get one of the "half-bikes" (essentially one wheel and a saddle....Adams Trail-A-Bike) that clamp onto the seatpost of your bike to create a tandem. I'd lean toward the former option as he could continue to ride the tandem as he got older (and bigger) or you wife could hop on with you were she so inclined once your son has his own bike.Originally posted by: PastorDon
I smoke the occasional cigar (maybe totalling a half-dozen per year), but that's it. Most of the sports I enjoy are of an aerobic nature, so the last thing I want to do is gunk up my lungs with smoke. God knows I probably do enough damage to them inhaling Atlanta's lovely smog during the summer.
You had mentioned in another thread that you cycle to work. Do you do any touring? I'm planning on taking my son (8) over the Seven Hills to the Sea Bicycle Tour this summer. I spent my formative years in the Panhandle, and feel it would be a neat trip. We'll have to adjust because of his age.
Hehe....yeah, most people don't realize that you don't inhale cigars. I'm sure it would catch up to you if you were smoking two or three a day thanks to all the nicotine, but a stogie once in a while is no big deal. I won't have one during the racing season, but off-season (particularly while getting in a round of golf ) is another story.I remember cycling with some guys from Dothan, AL a few years back in the Tri-State Triangle. They all wore CCCP cycling jerseys (flashback to the good 'ol cold war days). They claim it stood for Circle City Cycling People. I remember getting picked on a lot for lighting up a Partagas at camp. They could not understand how I could cycle strong and indulge.

That is because it doesn't kill some people. My great grandmother has smoked a pack a day for 60 years, she is 86 years old, and is the healthiest elderly person I know. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way for most of us.
