Yes. A few years ago it became a law here in CA and now it's just a matter of habit to put it on. Good thing to. Wearing one has literally saved my life. (Of course, the fact that I was wearing one in a Volvo didn't hurt. )

Always...don't have a problem with the government enforcing it, either.

Remember...you don't HAVE to wear your seatbelt, but if you choose to live in this country and disregard that law (as is your right as a competent adult) then be prepared to pay the price. Simple as that. Or you could just buy a truck and move to GA...govt. doesn't require any truck drivers down here to wear seatbelts.

The odds of getting trapped by your seat belt vs. getting thrown through the windshield are such that anyone with any intelligence will wear the seat belt.

A friend is a EMT on an ambulance. The stories he has told of body parts being amputated when people fly head first through the wind shield is enough to scare anyone into wearing one. Of course he says the people ususally don't care since their skulls are usually crushed by then anyway.

BTW, he's said he has never had to unbuckle a dead body from a seat belt, he has had to pick up the parts off of the road from where people were not wearing one.

You decide.

Someone just posted this to the contour.org forums this morning, and it explains why should always wear your seatbelt:

She offically died at 12:50 AM on 01/27/01. Here is the story... I was coming down a road well know for deer. I have travelled this countless number of times and have never seen one.... until this mourning. I was coming a round a turn and the deer was standing right the in front of me. I swirved to the right and lost traction.. the car spun adn flipped 6 times into a ditch. I was able to walk away from the accident with only one little scratch. I have few minor pians but all and all I am fine... For all you peole who dont wear seatbelts you guys really need to, because if it was not for that and God's help I will surely be dead right now. Things are ironic I wanted to sell this car and get something and now in a way I did... Hell I will be back with another SVT a 2000 silver with a sunroof. And to my MD/VA/D.C onwers it looks like I will not be making the meet today and on the feb 10th. Damn all of this is a real blower... I did not even care about my body. The first thing I asked the EMT's was "Is my car alright" I heard NO... I cried..

as has been said it's law here and habit, though i lately i do it only as i get to the main road. i'm not as conditionedly obedient as i used to be.
there was a really interesting series about car accidents on tv a while ago. trouble with laws like this is the more 'safe' they make it [including improving roads] the faster ppl go and the more they die. the conclusion was the best thing they could do for the road toll really would be to remove all saftey features and put a bloody big spike on the steering wheel instead.

ALWAYS! My parents made that a hard requirement as I was grwoing up and I am glad they did. It saved my life in a BAD accident once (rollovers and end-overs).
