I have never used an Apple-made mouse that I like.

Am I alone? Is there one out there that I missed?

Not one, I hate them all. Especially that horrid puck on the old CRT iMacs. And that uni-directional rollerball. Also the new mouse acts funny, my friend got one and it's kinda hard to use. Apple stinks at ergonomics, lol.

I should have mentioned that this thread is inspired by the fact that I just bought an old Mac Mini G4 from CL that came with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

I was excited about the wireless stuff until I opened the box and recalled how much I hate Mac mice.

I didn't mind the Mighty Mouse, but once that ball got dirty you were fucked.

My co-worker took one of our old puck mice that went bad and ripped the cord and everything out and we played kick hockey with it for about 20 minutes. It was pretty awesome.

I didn't have a problem with the ones that came with Macs prior to when Mac OS supported contextual menus (Mac OS 8 I believe?) and prior to the existence of optical mice.

Back then a single button ball mouse satisfied all of my needs.

I haven't liked any Apple mouse I've used since then, though the hockey puck mouse was alright.

I liked the Magic Mouse, but didn't find it good enough to make me want to replace my MX518 with one. If they had a wired version, I probably would've though..

Mighty Mouse was crap. Worst scroll ball in the history of mice. The Magic Mouse on the other hand, is dreamy.

I tried to clean the mouse last night and ended up destroying it.

I am actually kinda happy about it.

The problem is, is that in an effort to be stylish and different, Apple overengineers possibly the simplest component of the computer into an ergonomic nightmare.

For me, a mouse needs a few things:
2 Real Buttons - left and right mouse click. No fancy one button deal where it detects which finger is pressing. Keep it simple.
Mouse wheel - Pretty self explanatory. The mouse rollerball is a neat idea on the might mouse, but still, not necessary. Also, is the magic mouse's interpretation of the idea any better? Not really
Laser or Optical Sensor - Apple hasn't strayed from the norm here, but I'm sure they're toying with the idea to do something stupid in this area.

What would be nice on a mouse:

Extra buttons - You know... to configure to common tasks. Back/Forward, Copy/Paste, Expose, etc.

And because Apple is insistent on doing none of these correctly, I'll stick with my logitech mouse that can do it correctly. It's not rocket science, but they sure think it is. Granted, the magic mouse looks great, but I value my wrist's longterm health over style.

7 years ago, I had my first experience with an ergonomic mouse. I tried the Logitech MX500 and instantly changed my outlook on the importance of a good mouse. It just felt so good to have an ergonomic mouse. I bought it and never looked back.

About 2 weeks ago, my MX500 finally gave out after years of abuse. I was partial to Logitech, only because I had such a great experience with the MX500. Still, I shopped around. Microsoft had a couple cool mice with comfortable shapes, but it seemed like they were a little short on the palm support. I tried the Apple Magic Mouse, even though I don't have a Mac, just to see what it was all about. Made my hand cramp very quickly and I didn't see the point of a mouse like that.

Then I tried the Logitech Performance MX mouse. Wow, it was incredibly comfortable. Good size, good shape, nice button placement, and the wireless receiver is super tiny, so it's safe to leave int a USB port on my laptop when I'm mobile. On top of all of this, the mouse looks pretty sharp. It's just a good design. So, I bought one and it's great! Hopefully it'll last me another 7 years, like my first Logitech mouse.

These kind of mice really work for me and let me get a lot of work done over a long period of time without getting all cramped up. To my knowledge, Apple has never made a single attempt at making anything ergonomic, especially their mice.

So unless I missed a mouse somewhere in their entire mouse lineup, I don't like a single Apple mouse.

The Magic Mouse is the only one I've felt was good enough to use. I wouldn't pick it over a logitech though given the choice. I won't use any microsoft mouses though have never had a good experience with them.

All the editing servers at my college (Mac Pros) all have those Mighty Mice (is that the plural?). They're just an absolute awful piece of crap. Almost unusable at times. They even feel cheap as soon as you pick it up. I don't know why Apple sells a $2500 computer but insists on shipping such garbage mice with them.

I use a Logitech MX 620 laser mouse for my desktop. I wouldn't swap it for any of Apple's. The old desktop bus mice weren't that bad but every USB and bluetooth one they've made are just awful.

I have an MX700 (the wireless version of the MX500) hooked to my HTPC and love it to death. It's an awesome mouse. I'm currently using a Microsoft Laser Mouse 8000.

I would LOVE to have Logitech mouse for my notebook, but I refuse to put up with a dongle. A MBP only has two USB ports to begin with, and the thought of having to use one up for a mouse is ridiculous to me. I would really like for Logitech to sell some of their full-size mice in Bluetooth outside of the keyboard & mice combos.

Big fan of the Mighty Mouse. Helps a lot with my workflow, going from program to program. I have the side buttons bound to Expose All Windows, and the scroll ball to Expose Desktop. Very handy.

But the track ball does get dirty quickly. My solution to that is quite simple and effective: Use a damp lint free cloth (like an eyeglass cleaner) and rub the mouse/track ball upside down on the cloth. Works like a charm for me every time. I've done this with the three Mighty Mice in my office to aid that plaguing problem.

I like the magic mouse, but it still has enough flaws that I need to keep a normal mouse on my desk for somethings.

Magic Mouse + Better Touch Tool .. Pretty win combo. Its nowhere near a gaming mouse, but... for productivity.. amazing.

Three finger swipe down = Move window to other monitor.

Although sometimes I find myself wanting to use my MX Revolution.

True that.. I've used quite a few different wireless mouses in the past 8 years, and I have really settled on this magic mouse with better touch tool.. the mouse is not nearly worthy of using without BTT.. i have set so many swipe motions to commands I would otherwise always use a keyboard to do.. three finger tap for expose, two finger swipe up.. hide all windows, down.. bring all windows back, pinch to zoom.. yea awesomeness, especially for a htpc

I played with the Magic Mouse at Best Buy, not long enough to really get a feel for it. I loved the scrolling, but I didn't get a chance to try the multitouch. My initial impression was I needed more time with it. I kind of want one, but at the same time I don't. It definitely isn't on par tracking wise with my Razer. I turned the settings all the way up in the system preferences and it still wasn't as smooth as I'm use to.

like aphex said though, I'm eyeballing it. I'm wondering if a solid few weeks with with would lead to me loving it.

The touch-sensitive magic mouse is a fantastic idea, but every time I've demoed it at the store my hand gets sore in 30 seconds.
