have you ever driven a civic with auto? ouch, they never seem to shift properly even on slight inclines..

They have "Grade Logic" that holds gears longer on inclines. They're supposed to shift differently on inclines, i.e., hold lower gears longer on uphills, and not upshift if you're coasting down a hill, so you don't build up too much speed. Does that kinda-sorta describe how it behaves on hills?

Any two huh? You do know that production auto v8 fbodies and corvettes are just as fast as their stick counterparts right?

The reason why autos are slower than sticks isn't because of any production limitation. It's simply because most people want a smooth, easy to drive car. Smooth shifts are actually bad for performance and clutch pack wear. If every auto came from the factory with 3k+ rpm stall and performance shift setup, you'd get tire spin alot more and bone rattling shifts. Not exactly the target profile for people driving passenger cars.

That's fine if it's a personal preference thing. But most of you stick whores aren't even aware that there are ALOT more mods for auto trannies than there are for stick. Go to a drag strip and look at what some of those guys are packing under the hood. Once you see an aftermarket tranny cooler the size of a radiator on a small car then you can come back in here and talk about auto vs stick.

I would say go with Tiptronic on an Audi. If it was a BMW, I would say go with manual because BMW`s manuals are simply great, however with my Audi and a couple of other manual Audis, I didn`t like the way transmission react.

first die hard auto fan ive seen.

good...they need more of those.
most people (i know) who drive auto want to drive a stick, or wish they knew how to

among other reasons, i got a stick so that my friends wouldnt bug me to let them drive my car...

It's not so much I'm a "diehard auto fan" but that it's really ridiculous how ignorant so many people are about autos. Any ricer can walk onto a dealership, buy a stick civic/sentra and then pretend to be hardcore. It takes another kind of person to build up a fast auto.

I've driven several stick cars and it's fun, but I still have respect for car guys who choose autos. It's like you guys sit around reading car and driver all day and then, well if the magazines tell me autos are for pussies, it must be true!

Don`t worry buddy, although I drive and prefer a stick shift, an Audi RS6 w/ tiptronic will bitch slap all those automatic bashers

Automatic, SUV (from before they were cool). Maybe my next car will be a manual, as long as it's also a fun car to drive. Stick on a truck (or a car that drives like a truck) just doesn't do it for me. I actually prefer manual though, but my current car is a practical vehicle, not for fun

On the other hand, I don't really want to be associated with the "automatics are for pansies" crowd, you guys are idiots.

What does that have to do with anything? When I got my current car, I was a sophomore in college. The furthest thing from my mind was "Wow, I want to impress the 1337 peeps on ATOT with my incredible stick shift smoothness." The only reason why I haven't gotten rid of my current car is b/c it has been nothing but good to me and routinely gets about 29 MPG on every tank.

My next car will be a manual though...not b/c it's the "popular" thing around here on ATOT to do, but b/c it's what "I" want.

Some of you guys need to get over yourselves when it comes to things like this

I wonder if the guys talking sh*t understand that a built auto has the potential to be faster than a stick. I'm talking high stall TC, shift kit/valve job, with an inline tranny cooler. What you get is freaking 3k+ rpm launches and instant, neck jerking shifts that no human can possibly out shift.

For my next car I wanted to buy a stick, but this thread almost makes me want to buy another auto and build it up. All you guys talking sh*t about autos are just a bunch of closet ricers.

also there is more to our love of manuals than just going fast. driving a manual takes a lot more concentration and focus than an auto. driving an auto takes one hand and one foot....whereas in a manual ur using both feet as well as both hands...AND we have to do everything else that any auto driver does, ie pay attention to the road/avoid dangers/obey laws. my point is that driving a stick takes a lot more skill than just pushing the pedal to the metal...and we take pride in that!
nice Opinion, but they did compare the Auto PowerStrokes and the Duramax's to their manual counterparts, the Autos BLEW the Manuals away in the uphill climb

Yah right, I have been able to drive a manual before you were itchin your daddy's pants, and don't think it's something hard, I was driving a 49 Packard with a 3 on the tree before you were kickin your mamma's womb and that was not hard either. Now sit back down and learn, your little opinions are of no use right now.
