I lived in a dorm Freshman year. It blew donkey balls. Living off-campus is much better. There are no people playing rap music at 3 o'clock in the morning when you have a test the next day, a room bigger than a cardboard box, real food, no RAs acting like Nazis, a place to park that is in walking distance, etc...

When I go, I'm doing the off-campus thing. If I go to a school that requires you to live on campus freshman year, fine. I'll live there freshman year. Until I get fed up with it, at which point I'll still pay for the dorm, but keep it functional only as an emergency crash-pad and bandwidth hole and actually live in an apartment.

You will meet TONS of people in the dorms. It has a lot of drawbacks and you probably won't want to stay there for the duration of college, but it is something you should definitely do for at least a year.

Live on campus for your first year. You will meet SO many more people that way. Commuters miss a LOT of the whole college experience.

Just for reference, could you list a few more experiences that just CAN'T be missed? Shooting beer out your nose? Splinter up your fingernail? Dealing with a used car salesman? Changing a poopy diaper?

I lived in dorms for 3 years...This is my first year out.

Dorms are alot of fun. I miss them, but you can't stay forever. It sorta sucks sharing bathrooms & stuff at times. But look on the bright side, you don't have to clean them

Anyways I believe it is well worth the experience to live there atleast once. You will meet so many people & make so many friends. And if they coed are dorms like the ones I lived in

Ohh and watch out for the CaFATeria food, it is unhealthy.

PS. Just wanted to add: If you can say no at times & do your homework. You will be fine. My first year marks sucked, second & third year marks are both good.

It also depends on the campus. My school is basically a commuter school. There's not many people left when the day is done. For me, that was fine so I'm staying at home. Sure I'm missing out on the experience but if I was at school I'd have to commute to work (same distance as commuting to school) and home is in a much nicer place then school. Personally, I'm happy living at home.

yeah commuter schools = no campus life....it's all in the downtown area where you live. Still I am going to say 99% of chicks will not come to your place if your parents live there, no matter how cool they are. However if you have a private entry and exclusion from the main house then you are 'shining like white diamonds and crys'

The best situation is to live in an off-campus apartment within walking distance.

I agree. I think you are missing out on part of the "college experience" if you don't stay in the dorms for at least one year.

what if you stay in the dorms for one year, and then just end up commuting from your house the years after that, would that make any sense?

why is it that i dont seem to be meeting TONS of people? er I've met these people, but its like I never really end up hanging out with any of them or having any fun. they dont invite me with them to places. (note- i'm at a christian college so they dont party, but they go out and do other fun stuff on weekend nights, when i sit in the dorms lonely. i feel kinda left out.
