<< Christ it's thier house, they have the right to say who stays or goes. >>

Of course, but it's just something decent people do for the safety of others. You're retarded to host a party and think you're not going to have any responsibility whatsoever.

On reading this thread a little more carefully you can kind of see who host's the parties most often... and who goes to them

I'm sure there are plenty of people here who host parties and don't give a damn if everyone spends the night but I wonder if you own your own home?....

There was a time when I didn't give a crap if people stayed or not but I got burned by jerks once to often and so now I'm pretty firm about laying down the rules. Rules I always thought were just common sense polite behavior... the way you treat your buds. Apparently my ma raised me right and not everyones did

Come on guys he let them sleep it off, if they're not bright enough to not drive if they're still too messed up that just indicates how truly irresponsible THEY are....

I agree of course that obviously dangerous people should not be let out the door and there are plenty of times I enforced that. Remember he did let them sleep it off. Personally I would wait till I had sobered up then wake the jerks up and ask them if they were ready to drive yet. They have to be able to say yes, what are you going to do give them a breathalizer?

My point is that decent people know thier limits and are polite and responsible to think about it look at thier car and say "I don't want to kill anybody, I think I'll take the bus... or go for a walk for an hour or so..." I have done this myself. Why is it wrong to expect that others can do the same.

you're not required to let them stay the night but you should feel responsible to get them home safely one way or the other. if there is a sober driver then all should be cool. if not, you should see to it that they take a taxi home or drive them yourself if you're sober. if taxis or a sober driver is not available then they should stay the night.

in no way does getting drunk suddenly permit a person to crash at someone's house unexpectedly. it's great if the host can accommodate and is willing but he/she is not obligated to put up space for drunks if there is a safe way home.

I don't have parties at my current apartment. Too damn small.

But at my old place, we'd have people over to drink all the time. It was just understood that if they were trashed, then they weren't going home. If someone passed out, we let em sleep until they woke up. 3 or 4 beers was borderline, we'd always offer them more beer and a pillow.. some people would stay, some would go home.

If the guys wanted to stay, and were already asleep, you shoulda let em sleep. No harm in that. How would you feel if you had gotten a call saying "You have a collect call from an inmate in XXX county jail, will you accept the charges?" And someone was on the other end asking you to come bail em out. You coulda just screwed them over because you didn't want em to sleep 4 more hours. It doesn't take much these days for someone to get a DUI...

What problem do you have with have with letting people sleep over? It is a pretty ass-like thing to do to send them home smashed.

Ok, now I know I wouldn't have had a problem if he would've said 'hey man mind if I crash here tonight' I would've definatly let him do it, but it's just because he comes over and assumes that he can stay there. (the other guy that came with him really didn't have a problem with going and wanted to earlier but just gave up on getting the other guy to move.) You cant sit at your keyboard and tell me that you people go over to someones house and just expect them to let you spend the night there, without even asking them first, I have never heard of someone doing that nor have I done it.

edit: now that it is getting totally out of line. I tried to log onto some of my accounts and insists on calling me names. I just talked to him and he said: " your a f***king f@g i hope you know that."

A couple years ago I had a small gathering at my place with about 4 buddies in attendance. We were all 20 at the time I believe. We all drank a bit, maybe 4 or 5 beers each over the course of several hours so nobody was really smashed. The only exception was this one guy who drank half of a 375ml bottle of Captain Morgan, he was completely sh1tfaced. Unfortunately, the kid had drove to my house in his car, so we had to figure out a way to get him and his car home. We told him that one of us (me) would drive his car home, and someone else would follow. The kid flat out refused and started putting up a stink about it, crying (literally) about how he didn't want his mother to see him drunk. He kept demanding to sleep on the couch and I told him to F off, since we were willing to get him and his car home in a safe manner. Finally I told him if he wouldn't take a ride home, then he could sleep in his goddamn car in the driveway because he wasn't sleeping on my couch. He had puked a few times already and I didn't want him doing it again in the middle of the night and making a mess. So that's what he did, he slept in his car overnight and drove himself home in the morning
