Is it me or are these the ultimate vacations ? Love it. All you can eat, whenever you want... entertainment is on-board... pools everywhere... stop off at islands for a day for a change... see places with no effort on your part... what more do you want ?

Dammit, I voted wrong. I meant to hit "no" for the second, I didn't realize that Fusetalk resets your choices on the second when you vote on the first.

Many people I talk to that have been on a cruise and to an all-inclusive resort say the resort is better. Alcohol is not included on a cruise, it usually is at a all-inclusive resort.

Cruise ship seems like too many people in one place. I don't like crowds on vacation.

its a lot of fun, we have only been on two, both to the E. Carib. one on Royal Caribbean the other on Holland America.
They were both wonderful, i especially loved our HAL cruise this past Jan, but i cannot comapre it to hawaii (which was not a cruise)

Its nice because you only unpack once, and thats it. we had a mini-suite so it was nice to relax in the room. THe food was good, atmosphere nice.Less kids that RC. Dining room was poorly designed. right under the engines. lots of vibrations.
The ports were great (except Nassau).

They have their goods and bads, but something i think everyone should try at least once!
i am sure you have seen our cruise photos, but if you havent:

I love cruises. I've been on 3 and all 3 have been awesome. I can't wait to go on another.

I'll do one sometime, but they are inferior I think to single point destinations. course I've never done one, so how do I really know?

Cruises are nice, but I prefer going to places that are "touristy" in the sense that there's actual 'must-see' things. Statue of Liberty & The Empire State Building in NY, or Disneyland in Florida, or the Eiffel Tower in Paris, for example, amongst numerous others.

A cruise is good if I just want to relax.

Cruises are mad fun, only been to the bahamas a couple of times. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

The only downside is that you don't get to spend enough time in a port. I would gladly trade less ports-of-call for more than 5 hours in each.

Otherwise, I would cruise anytime anywhere.

they drop you off at 3 different locations throughout a 7-day cruise... and you can go explore on your own on the island the entire day so long as you're back by ~6pm. It was great. We got to ride the local buses, visit the local hotels... same as if we were stuck in 1 destination for a vaca... only downside is the limited hours..

cruises are my favorite vacation. I love to look at ocean, and listen to ocean, and feel ocean breeze but I don't much like to be IN the ocean and I HATE sand. I liked all that stuff OK when I was younger but.. now my idea of a perfect trip to the beach is an ocean front house with a big porch and a comfy chair, in october.

so.. a cruise is perfect. great food, whenever you want it. plenty of entertainment, pretty much whenever you want it. interesting places to poke around for the day or part of the day every so often.. but best of all, a nice balcony with a comfy chair, a pile of good books , a nice breeze and plenty of sea to look at.

my dream vacation.. one of these days.. would be one of those transatlantic cruises to the mediterranean. they last long enough that I think I'd be happy to go home when it was over, and there's tons of at sea days.

Has anyone every done a cruise from New York? Granted, none of them have good destinations, but how much does it really matter if the majority of time is spent on the cruise ship anyways?

It's just dirty and dumpy. I've been there two times and I didn't like it either time. Same with the Jamaica stop Ocho Rios. The people there rag on you a ton. I don't mind when they try and sell stuff to me but when they follow you down the street for 15 minutes it gets annoying.

went on the disney crise line in 9th grade. it was fun. two things that sucked was you got all the free food you want but the only free drinks were tea, milk and water. they had a 6 pack of cokes in your cabin but it was like 4 bucks a can.

another thing was playing basketball on top of the ship at night. the wind blew so hard that making layups were almost impossible. i think we played for 2 hours and the score was like 15-20

I'm a bit strange, I'd rather go "in country" for vacations, but I think working on a cruise ship would be a blast.

to be blatently honest... its a dump. thats it. sure, you can go to the Atlantis Resort, but you can only gamble there for free, everything else is super $$ for not a lot. Dirty (like dead rats laying everywhere), tons of solicitors from the time you walk off the ship. Armed Guards at the entrance of the port. Sure tehre is some history, but we walked around for about 15minutes and after we walked off the main street, we didnt feel safe.

St Thomas was ok. too many people for such a small island, lots to see though.
St Maarten?martin was wonderfully beautiful, tons of History and a cool nudie beach
Tortola = paradise! pretty pretty pretty...for the caribbean.
again, i say these things in comparison to Hawaii, which i should not bceause they are both different, but anyways, i cannot wait to go on our next cruise (I am hoping it will be in Europe though!)

been looking into this for my parents... norwegian cruise lines seems to be one of the few which do it (ncl.com) ... pretty decent rates too. Only thing is ... one of the destinations is Nassau. I had no idea it was a dump... when you think Bahamas... ya know ?

one of the itineraries

Anyone know about Great Stirrup Cay ?

we have been on 4 (3 Carnival of them were carnival and the other was Disney's cruise ship - all Caribbean cruises)....they are definitely a blast...5 day cruises are probably the right length of time to be on one of those boats before you get too stir crazy...

only downside is gaining 5-10 lbs afterwards from all the d@mn eating. guess one other would be that the good excursions (submarine rides, jeep tours, etc) are pretty expensive if you choose to do them)....

Couldn't agree more with you lola. I won't be getting off the boat on my third trip to Nassau or Ocho Rios. I gave them both two shots and they weren't fun either time. Now St Maarten, I'm ready to buy a house there.

my next cruise is leaving out of NY, and my last cruise was from NJ, I am from the northeast and just dont like to fly, I am paying about the same price as a cruise leaving out of FL + RT airfare.

they get ridiculously cheaper if you go with 3 or more people (at least for NCL). Like $500pp cheaper.

BTW, which cruiselines ?
