I've heard USAA is the best. Clark Howard always mention them. I've State Farm and they've always been fair with me in regards to any claims.

AAA. Multi policy discounts are great. I had no problem with my last claim. They cut me a check in days and handled it with little hassle.

Not hearing anything about 21st century. Anyone have claim experience with them? They're my company now, but it looks like I'll switch to State Farm.

when i did my claim with AAA it was no problem for me. the only problem i had was getting a rental car - i wasn't 25 at the time, so my dad had to get the rental and i drove his car. but then the accident wasn't my fault so i didn't have any issues. also, i went to AAA approved body shop, so an adjuster didn't have to come out.

i have yet to make a claim with progressive.

Well, this is sorta different, but the best company to work for is State Farm. I have relatives and friends who work for State Farm, and they really take care of you. For example, they paid for the flight, hotel, and all expenses for my cousin to find a place to live in Louisiana. He absolutely loves his job and State Farm, but HATES the Baton Rouge traffic and people.

I live in the same town as State Farm Corporate. Their employees have a major superiority complex and worship the place. But am I jealous of their wages and opportunities for advancement? Hell yes.

Bloomington? I heard that almost everyone in that city works for State Farm Lol.

Ain't that the truth, heh.

state farm only because i have a totally clean record and am 30. they are by far the cheapest insurance option for me.

i was in two wrecks that were not my fault with my previous vehicle. the first was covered by allstate without a police report. in the second my truck was totaled and state farm paid me $6400 for a truck i bought for $4500 2 years before.

from my experience the big insurance companies are easy to deal with.

I'm happy with Progressive - great service so far, and significantly cheaper than Geico.

My experience with them -
well first of all, they cost less than half of what we were paying before, and if they make a profit they give it back to you in the form of a dividend check at the end of the year. We did get in an accident (not at fault), car was totalled. They offered us less than I thought the car was worth, we told them we'd been looking around and the only comparable cars we could find were $1000-2000 more than their offer. They said they'd do some different calculations and try to help us out. They offered us $3000 more than before ($1000 more than we even asked for).:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Edit: You didn't have to add it to your poll, it's only available in NJ, and even then it's only available to some people (who work for companies that belong to some group of companies, the name of which I cannot recall)

Dividend checks: http://www.njm.com/12-06-05_rewards_of.htm

NJM is awesome at the very least. i'm referred a handful of people and they all switched over after hearing about all of the incentives.

USAA is the best if you can get it. I have USAA auto insurance by getting on my fiance's policy. Neither of us were in the military, but her ex-husband was. When she divorced she got to keep her coverage and I went onto her policy as an operator with my cars. It's only 35% of the cost I paid each month for State Farm. This is with 4 cars, an 86 Trans AM, 94 Corvette Convert., 99 Camaro Z28, and an 02 Monte SS.

For those saying that Insurance Co. A is the best, well, they might be the best for YOU, but not for everyone.

There are so many factors that go into rating insurance risks you would have NO idea. Also, it seems as though the only time you hear something about an ins co. is when something goes wrong, like a "bad" claim experience or whatever.

The best way to find the best company is look around, talk to an agent at the office near you, have them explain your coverages.

You will be able to see right away if you want to give your money to them. The VERY least they can do is give you their time and to make sure you understand WHAT you are paying so much money for.

When a customer comes in to my office, I feel like i should answer every question they have, explain every coverage they have, would might be BETTER for them and then have them decide. I also want to make sure they know the claim process and how my company handles claims.

If your agent doesn't do at least that, you need to find soemone else.
Thats just my .02

Oh, I posted a very positive insurance story. And as sciencewhiz pointed out, the way to tell a good insurance company from a bad one is what they do when you file a claim. I don't know how the "factors that go into rating insurance risks" has anything to do with how good an insurance company is - it'll affect the rates you get from different insurance companies, but the lowest price is not always the best insurance company for you if it's going to be a hassle when you file a claim.

Yeah, I went to school in Bloomington... I wish I could've gotten on there, but oh well. It seems like you NEED to know someone to get a job there.

I Do agree with you 100%. People say that Its best because it is cheapest and as you said, that is usually not true.

The way I look at it is like this:
I am there (as an ins. agent) for the very best times for my customer (got married, buying a new house) and the very worst (bad auto accident, house fire). I am one of the first people they will call. It is my job to take care of them, often times, calming them down, consoling them when they are hysterically crying, etc. We might not always have the rock bottom cheapest rates, but our services will outshine price when a helping hand is needed.

And what company is this? I'm currently in the market to switch due to a bad claim experience.

Believe it or not, Geico saved me a crapload of money.

Before with Allstate = 3200/yr (they wanted 3500 to renew!!! This was after discounts (lol) and 'adjustments.'

After going to Geico = 1360/yr

It is hard to get on there...even if you know someone. The three ways I'm aware of:

Get hired as contract into an area that actually hires contractors - not all do.
Go in through the CRC, the 24/7 phone bank. Total burnout job and they want a minimum 18 months out of you.
Get hired straight out of college, 3.2GPA or better. As far as I can tell, they don't care about your major. Had I known that, I would have gotten a comm major, a 4.0, and a kickass job.

There used to be a program called InfoTech where they'd pay you to go to an intensive training course in mainframe programming and what not, but then they discovered H1-B labor.

"Good Hands", although each agent will be different.
Each claim experience is different as well, but i have all of our stuff through them as well and when we hit a deer a few years ago, things were handled very fast.

Like i said, check out a lot of agencies before commiting. You are giving them a LOT of money. they should at least care about you as a customer and a person.
