Poll: Firefox or IE?

Choose your allegance...I'm trying to figure out if firefox is worth a switch...even though I love ie.

If you love IE, no need to switch to FireFox.

FireFox is for those who hate having IE crash on them every 10 minutes- no for people who love IE. If IE works perfect for you, you won't notice much more of a difference other than tabbed browsing, and some pages not loading.

IE worked fine for me, but I prefer the extra features of Firefox - tabbed browsing, adblock, a simple search bar that you can add any search engine you want to it (even dictionary, wikipedia etc). It also feels faster (especially on a friend's laptop, as having multiple tabs in firefox uses a lot less ram than multiple windows in IE), and then there's the 'better security' issue.

Firefox is intentionally non-bloated and comes with only a solid browser and the major features. Then there are a huge number of extensions with which you can personalise extra features to suit you.

Installing Firefox automatically imports your bookmarks and stuff, so it's pretty painless just to install it to have a try. Browser choice is as much abotu personal preference as anything, so give it a go and simply go back if you dont prefer it.

I switched to Firefox. It's got its share of quirks, but most can be worked around or adapted to. Some sites though were coded with IE's idea of HTML, and so they won't work with any other browser. Liteon's firmware download page is one example. With IE, clicking any link results in a download window popping up. In Firefox, it doesn't happen, and Adblock doesn't register any blocked popups. Some pages at the US Postal Service's site also don't render properly.

However, pages like that are few, at least in my experience.

Firefox, I have almost fully switched, except for the odd time I need to use IE for a page that wont load right in Firefox (rate) and of course Windows update.

Ok, so I have tried IE and I have tried Firefox, but I just enjoy Opera so much better.

I have been using Opera for awhile and I know you have to pay to use, but there are ways to get around that *wink wink*. Overall I think Opera is faster than IE or Firefox. Even with the network tweak extension for Firefox I still think Opera is faster. I think that tab system in opera is much easier as well.

The set backs are that Opera wasn't coded as well and so some sites won't work for it. Personally I have never run into a site that wouldn't load. Some flash things I have trouble with but thats about it.

So go Opera!

Okay, so I just dl'ed and installed firefox. And when I make my way back to these forums...there is an new 'Quick Reply' feature at the bottom of the pages? What? Is this a firefox only feature? Or do I have something disabled in ie?

(either way...I like it so far!)

I love firefox, it has some shortcomings, but those are mainly caused by MS's monopoly and every coding pages for IE.

Gotta say I like both. The tabbed browsing is a huge plus, but then some pages just work better (or only) with IE. Now that IE finally has a popup blocker, the difference is less. I probably use Firefox 65% of the time, IE the rest.

And call me stupid...but I have no tabbed browsing, and i believe it's enabled in the options--but what do I specifically need to have checked?

I'm just getting a new window opened every time...

the feature has been there for quite some time... it was on IE before too, however, i think it didn't load right, b/c there were page length issues with how it rendered etc...
so my guess is maybe they disabled it for IE but left it there for other browsers maybe.

Okay...bumped my vcore to 9.12 volts and I'm getting a lil' smoke....but still no firefox tabbed browsing...

Okay...I checked the firefox website for info on enabling tabbed browsing...followed it's simple instructions (check 'a new tab in the most recent window')....restarted the computer. But alas, no tabbed browsing.

It's got to be something simple that I'm doing wrong....any help here?

Tabbed browsing also requires a 450W power supply.


(I think you click stuff while holding the Shift key to get a tab thingie going edit: wait, that's for IE. Try Ctrl click)

IE = Sh!t security & Interface & You'd have to have 100 windows in taskbar.
Firefox = Tabbed Browsing & Better Security & if you install all the plug-ins you'll be fine
Opera = loaded with garbage.

luckily my enermax 600w should be enough.

Yea, the ctrl + click opens up a new tab, but whenever I go click a link that opens a new window in ie, it also opens a new window in firefox. I was under the impression that this would just open a new tab and not a whole new window.

for example: http://www.warp2search.net - scroll down and click on the jasc paint shop pro picture. Firefox opens a new window here and NOT a new tab.

Edit: LOL, or even clicking the link i provided above opens a new window....this is getting annoying....

Maybe they could help you with that over in the Software section.

Or click ...oh, what is it, Tools > Options and there's a checkbox somewhere in there to make it show the Tab bar all the time, IIRC. Root around a bit
