So, if you met a guy with a long distance girlfriend, you'd still go after him?

The pendulum doesn't swing that way, Tarzan.
That's not what you said, but, OK.

cultivated friendship while trying trying to flirt or hook up with her

+

I will tell her that I respect her bf, but cultivate a relationship only in hopes of eventually hooking up.

Current record: 1/2, with a third still pending as of this post

Well, yes, you're right. But you misinterpreted my post. I've been around here long enough for everyone to know that I'm a homophobic, heterosexual man. I said "GF/BF" to encompass the entire "long distance relationship" gamut, not necessarily inferring that I would be interested in a BF as well as a GF. Damn; I should've been a lawyer.

when you say "hooking up", i'm under the impression that you mean getting some play...so, with that train of thought...i used to cultivate in hopes of eventually hooking up, and tho it's worked from time to time i've determined that it's not worth it, total waste of time and for some it's a waste of money as well, so i would just be straight up about my intentions, whether it be thru flirting or otherwise...so here's an example of what i found works better for me:

depends on the situation, environment, etc...but let's just say that i do meet someone at a bar and she starts talking to me, i'd most likely imply from the fact that she's talking to me in that setting that she's looking for some kind of attention...then she tells me she has a bf...so one of two things:

#1. i convey to her by flirting that i'm interested in hooking up with her, she turns me down, i move on and forget her

#2. i convey to her by flirting that i'm interested in hooking up with her, she flirts back and maybe gives me the greenlight, i go for it

yes with #2, i'd be invading someone else's nest, but it takes two to tango and she was advertising by reciprocating the flirting...the choice to partake in infidelity is her own and chances are if it wasn't with me, it'd be with someone else...

btw: i don't do any of this anymore, i feel pretty settled with my current gf

i would've voted if you had a choice similar to: Go for it, if it doesn't work out then move on and forget about her...

The young boy repartee wasn't doing it for us. We need intellectual stimulation.

I have a friend
who met this married chick who was pretty hot, very filthy rich and wanted him
bad....husband lives in the mainland like 9 months out of the year.

She's got all kinds of fun cars and a bomb house like on MTV Cribs.

He didn't go for it because she's married.

dumb move?

Cultivated a friendship with no ulterior motives. I would respect that she has a bf and just be friends because she is a cool person

I am in that situation right now.

Oh well........ at least she is fun to hang out with and she has some cute single friends

Cheers,
Aquaman

I think it's a good move............ never mess with a marriage.......... besides a guy that rich could probably get him funked up pretty bad.

Does the sad face suggest you would still like to hook up even though you have resigned yourself to a platonic relationship? What if one night things got a little crazy and one of you started to put a move on the other, would you go with the flow or stop it? Or, would you attempt to avoid this by avoiding situations that could lead down this road (ie going out, partying etc. aka alcohol). This question isn't just for Aquaman, but any of the other guys who answered similarly.

I am not in this situation, but I am just curious. I think it is common for guys to continue to stay friendly with girls even if "they know she has a bf". This poll is to either quell my paranoid side, or expose men for the scheming horn-dogs they really are

you bastard..i know you are talking about that friend of yours! :|

I'm in this situation right now. I met this girl who seems extremely compatible with me. She likes me, I like her. She has a long term bf who lives out of town who she isn't really compatible with, but stays with him anyways. She's flirted with me, but so far is still with him. I don't know what to do any more, short of telling her to break up with the guy.

And... if she'll cheat on him with you... She'll cheat on you the first time you're away or she's away.

Once a cheater, always a cheater.
I say cultivate a relationship on that premise, even be blunt about it. Let her know you respect her, but won't date her while she's dating someone else. Of course, then she has to make the decision to dump the other boyfriend... if you're lucky, she will.

The possiblity of a hook up would probably not happen and if something started I think I'd have to have a talk with her before anything went further.
