Poll: Hard drive failures

I was just wondering if IBM really is the biggest offender or if it is just trendy to bash them lately. I personally have never had a HDD fail on me so I'm voting for none. If you have had multiple drives crash just vote for the brand that either had the most drives fail or the newest drive fail.

PS - Oh, and try to limit responses to the past 24 months so as to avoid commenting on outdated drive technology.

This poll is definately going to give IBM a bad name(again). They're still a high quality brand for SCSI though, and that's all that matters in my book.

EDIT: My vote goes to Maxtor though...

I have used both WD and Maxtor and over the years both brands have failed before the 3 year warranty expired. Both companies have replaced the drives quickly. Needless to say I always have a full system backup. I am beginning to doubt that any hard drive made recently will last longer than 3 years.

I had no HDs fail on me so far. But i only owned Maxtor HDs so far. No IBMs at all. I almost brought a IBM 15 or 30 gig 75 gxp series HD but thank goodness i did not. Good thing i check hardware in great detail or i would of had to deal with all of that stuff.

One Maxtor failure out of at least fifty and that one was within a month of the end of it's warranty

Only hard drive I've ever had fail was a 6.4GB Maxtor 5400RPM.

Though they were really quick on the RMA.

However, I'm beginning to have doubts about my 75GXP 30Gig....

I've had windows die out on me twice in the last 2 weeks (Windows 2000 SP2) and the most recent time when I re-installed it I heard some funny noises coming from the vicinity of my hard drive.

I've only had 1 HD failure. It was a 17GB (?) Seagate. It was about 1 year old at the time of demise.

The only drive I've ever had fail was Maxtor. But I still think they are quality drives and own several including a couple of new D740X's.

My IBM 75GXP 30GB just crapped out on me. The drive lasted about 1.5 yrs and then went from good to dead in about 2 days. I decided to replace it with a WD1200JB drive. I'm getting the IBM back due to warranty, I just didn't want to wait and really wanted a more dependable drive.

Never had a failure, but currently have a noisy Maxtor 20gb on my kids' machine that sounds like it could go anytime.

One small issue with this poll is that, if the percentage of failures was exactly the same for all brands, then the most popular drives would get the worst marks.

So far Samsung looks like the most reliable drive. How many of you have ever owned a Samsung?
