First off, this is not a repost. I started another poll here when the demo was released for opinions on that.

The full retail version of the game has now been released, at least in some places around the world, like Australia, with the rest of the world to follow within the next few days.

This poll is again trying to show a general opinion of whether or not Crysis has lived up to the hype.
This time however, it is not for the demo and/or any user-created content but for the full game.

So...is Crysis really the...

will post when I beat it... which means I'll probably never post because I never beat games. lol

it's a great game. honestly, enemy AI is spotty: some times it seems brilliant and will hunt for you, other times, going in and out of cloak power, they will sometimes just seem to give up, waiting for you to make another mistake.
but the way the game plays, it just has that 'feel' of being rooted in reality, when considering its the future (so the nanosuit is plausible, hell the military is working on exoskeleton suits as we speak) and that aliens exist. So with those things in mind, the game feels very real. It has a lot of worth to it that it earns in both presentation and play.

I just beat it then, without giving away spoilers I'll say yes it did live up to the hype in my opinion, very fun game and the Nanosuit just makes it different every time you play .

I think it was a great game.
Did it live up to the hype? Well yes and no. It was fun to play through, for the most part, but it didn't feel like the awesome next-gen experience that it was possibly supposed to be. It felt like Farcry with some extra fancy-ness, but nothing hugely groundbreaking.

I'd say it's worth playing, but if you are expecting a Half Life level of "wow", I don't think you're going to find it here, too flawed.

Funny, i'm getting the exact opposite feeling. HL2 never wowed me, i was impressed with the fluidity of the game, but thats it. Everything else was very typical of FPS games. The first several minutes of Cysis had my jaw on the floor for 2 reasons.

1. Medium settings look as good as high/very high on anything else.
2. Very high, while a slideshow on my current rig, is something no othe game can touch.

I agree, though HL2 didn't "wow" me either. Both good games though.

A shooter is a shooter. There's only so much you can do, mainly shooting things - people, monsters, aliens, barrels.

Will update when I figure out when it is released. Seeing Nov. 15 locally, people getting it already, "official" releases saying Nov. 16... Oh well, I'll do the mall hump tomorrow since I have the day off.

I think it has definitely lived up to the hype. Although I don't have a DX10 card, the graphics look amazing, the game is fully playable at 20fps, getting rocketed by choppers in the jungle is intense... trees falling, random bits of wood flying through the air, ground shaking... it's intense. I'm playing through on Delta, so no crosshair or other 'cheats' (highlighted enemies / grenades, enemies talk in Korean, etc...) which is pretty much forcing me to be as stealth as I can. It's so much fun sneaking into a group of heavily armored guys and tearing them to shreds with my bare hands (guns wouldn't do much due to the armor, unless I hit headshots all the time).

I really like this game, and I'll be picking a copy up when it comes out (even pirates have to buy the good games )

I enjoyed HL2 and the episodes but HL2 never wowed me either... the linearity of HL2 and episode 1 really put a damper on the game for me.

I have a 8800gt OCed, e6600 stock, 4gb ram and a 17 inch monitor (dont ask) - just wondering what settings people with similar/same setup play on to get a solid FPS (staying over 30fps generally)?

Thanks.

1024x768 [or 1152 x 864 if you're monitor can handle it]

Advanced Graphics Settings:

Texture Quality Low
Objects Quality High
Shadows Quality Low
Physics Quality High
Shaders Quality Low

Right side - everything set to High.

Settings Shaders to low significantly helped increased FPS in the snow.

You *might* have to put everything to low for the final battle - I was getting ~10 FPS depending upon what was on the screen.

To answer the OP - Yes the game does live up to the hype. Sure - it's another "kill or be killed FPS" - but Crytek did an excellent job at keeping the story and game play interesting and progressing at a very nice pace.

And even though the Alien area isn't action packed - it does help tell the story...

the only disappointments I have with the game:

- Cliff Hanger ending.
- @%$@%@# Helicopters - no matter what I did, they wouldn't stop following me.

I'd imagine this game won't be available until the 17th for most stores.

I'd would either go to Best Buy or Circut city now because gamestop or ebgames would push other crap on me or tell me to reserve stuff.

So now instead of reserving, I would actually go to the store that ordered enough copies. I don't remember once going to a best buy and having them all sold out on day one for a game.

I'm running at 1680x1050, with everything set at high, and I average around 30fps. If I set the Shaders/Shadows to Medium, I run around 40fps. Since it seems perfectly playable (I've had one slowdown so far) at that rate, I'll leave it there. I don't know how far I am in the game, but I do have to point out my favorite moment so far. From across the valley I downed a helo with a tank ... I'm only slightly ashamed to admit that I let out a gleeful woo-hoo when it worked

edit: oh yeah ... disabling AA makes a huge FPS difference too.

Specs in my sig, I run it at 1280x1024 all on high, right side on very high (w/dx9 tweak) my specs are close to yours... I run 30+... you don't need shadows on low... at the lower res's. Native resolution should be 1280x1024 for your 17", no? At lest the 3 I have owned are native at the 1280x1024.

Yup native res is 1280x1024 - highest pixel density for any monitor size I think. Does running DX10 on high have any difference from running DX9 on high (no very highs)

Thanks again.

Excellent comparisons and tips can be found here.

Negligible? Have you looked at the visuals with everything set to very high? Looks head and shoulders better than DX9 max. not playable on most (any) current hardware, but the difference is more than negligible.
