I have looked at the visuals, and I read the whole article I linked which pointed out the very subtle differences... Also played both, either way DX10 isn't worth the performance loss especially on current hardware.

edit: damn you amazon for delaying my order!! new expected ship date: 11/21. Sigh!

I feel your pain, except it is for Mario Galaxy. Shipped yesterday from Family Video pre-order, so I'm hopeful I'll get it today or tomorrow.

On topic: Got Crysis for $39.99 with a $10 GC from Circuit City yesterday. So it lived up to $32 of hype for me. No game that's hyped up as much as this one can live up to that much hype.

i have a 20" Samsung LCD with native res of 1600x1200. I notice some slowdowns playing at 16x12. Should I play at 1280x1024 or 1280x960 since the latter is a true 4:3 aspect ratio?

edit: this is the demo btw. dont have the full game yet (damn you amazon)

I liked the game play of COD4 more. Though again, it was way too short.

I played Cyrsis up to the mission where you have to take down the AAA and I'm now at the cruiser with the jammer. (I don't know how to get on the frign boat so I gave up).

So far I agree with the many others. It's Far Cry 2 with a nano suite. I'm getting kind of sick of the jungle.

I also find it more rail-road tracked then I thought it was going to be. You have maybe 2 directions to reach the target and those two directions always gets you surrounded one way or another. Though you get the luxury of going high in the bushes or low in the swamps. You don't get much lee-way to maneuver without using the cloaking suite. And if you run out of energy and somehow get spotted in the high foliage, then you pretty much wasted 10 minutes trying to sneak in. And why are the Koreans always on high alert!?!? Christ, they need to remove the stick from their ass and get out of the prone posistion. No knife, no silent assassin kill, and the Koreans are always in packs so the silencer might as well be a gym teachers whistle.

You have to jump onto the deck using strength. The first half with the North Koreans is the best part... the alien half isn't nearly as good.

SPOILERS
SPOILERS

I thought both sections were pretty good. The story is more engrossing once the aliens come out and play but both sections have a pretty decent story I think. Gameplay is probably better when the Koreans are your main enemy though, though fighting the aliens was still fun, especially in the ship and climbing down the mountain and on the carrier. Story's not as good as Half Life 2's, but still a pretty decent story, even if it has been done before more or less.

The only level I didn't like in Crysis was the VTOL mission. The controls felt pretty bad and I felt like it was a level that was just added in for the hell of it. It was pretty cool how it ended though flying off the island escaping the aliens, but they could have had that scene by making your way on foot to an evac.

The last level was really amazing and well done, graphically and gameplay wise. I found it created a great atmosphere as well. Seeing the hundreds of aliens fly by in the night as others assault the carrier was really impressive. The explosions looked really good on that level and it ran pretty fluidly on a mix of medium, high and very high settings, and shadows on low.

I hope the next Crysis games will have a fair mix of human combat as well. I don't know how they will manage that but hopefully they will. Because the aliens are cool to fight, especially the big boss fights but the other enemies get annoying after a while, especially the ones that are always flying in the sky, though they are cool.

Overall though, a great game. I look forward to the day where we can max it easily like Far Cry today.

QUICK QUESTION

What is the difference between the regular retail package and the "Collector's Edition" of Crysis?

What extra do you get, why they call it that?

the collectors edition gives you some code to unlock a vehicle, along with like a 30+ page design walkthrough thingy...

Just so everyone know's, I can't get this game to work correctly, i've posted in computer help forum under crysis...please give me your input because I can't start playing till I fix this problem!

Excellent comparisons and tips can be found here.

Negligible? Have you looked at the visuals with everything set to very high? Looks head and shoulders better than DX9 max. not playable on most (any) current hardware, but the difference is more than negligible.

You can infact play crysis on DX9 hardware under windows XP on "very high" settings. Look it up, when you enable "very high" it's suppose to enable the majority of the visual features (over 90%) that Crysis will normally only let you see in Vista.

It can't enable certain things that are specific to DX10 but the majority of what you see in the "very High" settings under crysis on vista can infact be done in XP with out so much as a few changes in the config file in your crysis folder.

Enjoy

everyone's saying that this game is killing their systems...I don't know why...I just built my system for under $1000 and it's playing the game on max settings on my 22" monitor @ 1600x1200 settings...the only thing I have turned off is AA since I don't even know what it is, but i'm only using a 2180 and cheap HP ram...it's really not that demanding.

However, that being said, the game is beautiful. I'm not one to go out and get a game up front, but since everyone kept taking about it i bought it. Honestly, i'm not a FPS player, i play things like Silent Hunter and Total War...chess style games. With that being the case, i'm getting my butt kicked on easy but it's still a pretty sweet looking game. All in all it's really cool to watch, but I guess I was looking for a bit more depth in the gameplay, but then again, it could come from the genre I typically play requiring more of a calculating nature.

Are you saying that you're running it in Dx10 with all settings at Very High?

My rig is in my sig, and i play in Dx9 with all settings at High and occasionally my fps slow down to the point that i can notice it. This is at 1680x1050.

I notice the slow downs when the snow appears. Other than that, I've been playing in DX9 at high using 1680 x 1050 res using a 8800GTS OC'ed and a 2.8GHz X2.

I spoke too soon. When the Aliens come my system comes to a crawl and my video card over heats. I had to bring the shaders down to medium and that seemed to do the trick.

Yeah, I'm playing on Direct10...that's why i went with Vista anyway, for Direct10 support. The snow did put it down slightly, but I didn't lag enough to notice...it got choppy in the cut scene with the boat but that was all. Other than that no problems with this game

I finally got off my ass and reformated my comp and put in Crysis, CoD4, Quake Wars, and NFS ProStreet. While crysis does like kinda pretty, i must say COD4 was pretty fun, and i wasn't a fan of the first 3 COD. Im back off playing Warcraft III lol.
