Emma.

I've always loved the name Emma, and for the longest time wanted that as my daughter's name.

Howver now I'm going out with an Emma - so if we're still together in a few years and have any kids then I can't call one of them Emma.

Remember....what you name your daughter will affect what kinda girl she is.....

Ashley = Bad News Bears

Emma = Good Girl!

YMMV

My wife's original plan was to name her Elly (Elizabeth) but her sister has a kid that goes by Ally (Alexandra). And since her parents are older she figured having an Ally and an Elly might be a tad confusing. Her second favorite was Emma. We got the rest by going through some gigantic book and writing down the names we each liked. The ones listed in the poll are the oens that we both had on our lists.

I picked Mackenzie, but I'll make a suggestion, Morgan. I loved growing up not being confused during roll call since I was always the only Morgan in the class, sometimes the school.

I like Ashley or Lindsay. Samantha is nice but then she'll end up being called Sam. Similarly, Elizabeth will end up being Liz. Emma sounds like an old ladies name. Mackenzie? Nah... Payton? Don't think so.

BTW-Congrats!

Go back to the drawing board and pick a name she wont share with a large % of her generation.

Naming children currently popular names is a huge mistake. It dilutes their identity

I believe there are websites that list names, and their current and historical popularity and usage trends. Pick one that is not currently popular among newborns.

My name is Mike. I understand what you're saying for sure

elizabeth grace sounds the best. The most flowing. Also, Elizabeth is a classic name, as is Grace. I know that Samantha is a popular name these days, but it is not classic like Elizabeth, and does not flow as easily.

edit:
I like Ashley or Lindsay. Samantha is nice but then she'll end up being called Sam. Similarly, Elizabeth will end up being Liz.
VeggieFrog's real name is Kristina. No one calls her Kris, or Krissy or anything short for Kristina. It is up to the kid. When VeggieFrog was in kindergarten a teacher tried calling her Kris, and she just would not answer. One day, she politely told the teacher that her name was Kristina, not Kris. And when the teacher said that Kris was short for Kristina, she just smiled and said... but my mom did not name me Kris, she named me Kristina. Never happened again. She introduces herself as Kristina, and if anyone calls her anything else, she just smiles and says Kristina.

I picked Emma

My daughters name is Emily and I call her Emma... Its an ageless name.

Some names are cute when your talking about a baby or young person but can you imagine an 80-year-old Brittany? It just sounds weird.

Elizabeth or Samantha are the best IMO.

Whet I hear "Payton" I think Walter Payton / Superbowl Shuffle. Not really a good name for a girl IMO.

and "Mackenzie" that's a weird first name. McKenzie sounds like a Scottish surname.

That being said, Emma, Lindsay, and Ashley are all nice names as well.
Another thing you may want to do is use a mythological first name .. greek, roman, nordic, etc from whatever you and/or your wife's cultural ancesters were. Lots of cool, and slightly less common names, as well as meaningfull names, can be found there .....
