JuicyFruit, try underclocking your 9500 to see if the noise goes away. My guess is you're drawing too much power.

So, I'm thinking about this.. but I don't know which one to buy for best chance to get good results!
On this page: Newegg. Which one should I get?
Here's what I found:
ATI OEM RADEON 9500 128MB DDR BULK
*Out of stock!
Is that the one?

Well, the good thing about them being out of stock is that the new batch they get in will probably have a better chance of a successful Soft9700 mod than the earlier ones as long as they're still being built on the 9700 PCB.
1) As the process matures they will have lower and lower failure rates on their dies
2) Because of the Soft9700 mod I'm sure that demand for 9500 non-Pro's is heavier than ATI anticipated so their supply of rejected 9700 cores is being depleted faster. Therefore they would have to supplement good 9700 cores to build enough 9500 boards to fill demand.
Just an educated guess.

My psu has 2 4 pin floppy power cables. I didn't use the power cord that came with my video card. Could it be that it needs more juice that my floppy 4 pin can't bring?

*sigh* just got my card today and did the software mod. i'm getting 3d artifacts in some games, but not all. getting artifacts in 3dmark as well. 3dmark won't complete. always crashes.
*edit* is there ANYTHING at all i can do about this? is the card ruined?

I got mine from mwave.com. It is part no. A19810 here. With Soft9700 my 3dMark2001 score increased from 8900 to 11600. So I'd count that as a successful mod! -Baz
