Hmm, I wanna vote for both in-store and online. If I live in a place with stores that sell affordable cases, I'll buy local. I got my Evercase 4252 in a PCClub store in Escondido, CA. Now, my bro's cheapo case, we ordered from Compgeeks. Big mistake! (busted window...did they care? Not!).

From my neighbor that worked at newegg refurbs. He gets a pack of 6 assorted aluminum cases for $300. And me helping him on computers so much, he gave one for me for free , a lian li pc65 that is

Generally speaking I keep my case for a long time but everything else gets upgraded inside it. If I do need a new one I just go to a local store and pick up a blank one (i.e no fans or power supply).

After getting totally screwed by UPS for dammaging a case in transit, I believed that buying at stores was the way to go. That is until I saw a case I bought listed at Newegg for ~$25 shipped that I'd just paid >$65 for. Newegg tends to ship FedEX, and they are easy to deal with when there are problems.

My last real case purchase was back in 99 or 2000 and it was done online and shipped via ups, the packing had some damage but the case was just fine, I did pick up a cheapo locally though when my old AT case was finally trash.

Kinda risky as it was my first build, and my first new case, and only now do I realise how important a good case is (for working), always take a lot of care in choosing cases.

Bought my first case at a computer show (first homebuilt PC) and it was a generic case $250W PS

Newest PC I bought a Antec Lanboy case with 350W PS at Best Buy (open package) for $89.95 and I had a $50 gift card so it came out to about $31 total for me.

Agree'd... due to much higher S/H, buying cases online/mailorder makes less sense. If you can get a good deal locally, it makes sense.

I've bought 2 from Newegg and didn't pay any shipping for either one. The refurbs and clearance don't usually have shipping costs.

Computer show? I got mine in Feb of 2001. But I also shop at mwave, microcenter, pcclub, and other local online vendors that takes will call.

Hmm, I voted "built it", but I really just pick them up off the curb and keep the best ones for when I need to put a computer together...at any one time I usually have 2-3 computers I nabbed this way waiting to have their parts stripped (even worst case scenario you get screws and jumpers and LEDs ^^).

I got my Inwin Q500 online when I first built my computer in 99. The case will stay in my planned upgrade just the insides will change.

Out of twenty five plus all but two have been on line and the majority of those have been through Newegg.
